Maybe UNC could get Brown back. He's already done his thing at Texas.:1peekdoor

I thought most of those facilities were built in Brown's later years. Anyway, we got lucky. We found one of the better coaches in the country by accident and he recruited some of the best players we've ever had. Heck, even that team wouldn't go 10-1 in today's ACC because of the Big East additions, but the bigger problem is just that there are too many schools in N.C. and not enough recruits. We all fight over the same small pool, when even the best players from the state go elsewhere to play anyway. If UNC could hover around the top 25 consistently, that would be great, but expecting to ever be where we were under Brown is just setting yourself up for disappointment. It would be like N.C. State expecting to be top 5 in any sport. :supergrin

The facilities were started his last couple of years and were supposed to be the pieces that made him stay. I can't remember if they were all finished by the time he left or not. But you're right - we got lucky that we got a guy who really grew into the role and was a turnaround specialist, and then unlucky because he got one of the few college calls that would have made him leave UNC.

I still feel that we can be really, really good - think about how good we'd be with Beamer at the helm. I'm still not ready to write Bunting off, but that probably has as much to do with wishful thinking that if he could turn it around, he wouldn't leave as it does with actual belief that he will turn it around. :(

And, I will always expect that we can get back to that level. People were saying we'd never get back to Dooley's (b/c Crum was only good with his players) level before Brown came in too.

To be honest, I think that UNC should be in the top 25 in every sport we compete in. We have the cash and facilities. .

    There's trouble on the horizon.

About 20 players have been arrested under Bunting's reign for various crimes, including 5 felonies, 8 marijuana/drug charges, 4 alcohol-related charges and 15 assault/violence-related charges.

But of the 79 players that have come to UNC-Chapel Hill since 2002, 20 have either transfered or left the school. Those numbers will affect the graduation rates that the NCAA is now looking at.

Eh. That's a good month for Vick and Co. at VT. But he couldn't beat Miami every year - so he had to go. I expect Bunting - and most football coaches for that matter - to be graded much the same way.

Ummm.... no one gives a shit about graduation rates or arrest rates until you aren't winning football games?

Edit - Yeah, I had to fix it. :)

I think this was a big deal to UNC fans because this was one of those 50/50 games where either team had a chance to win and if UNC wants to go to a bowl game they are going to have to win those games. If they don't win those games they will have to upset a VT or Miami to get to 6 or 7 wins.

UNC...no gameday atmosphere...tiny stadium. Tough conference (now).

Not to mention, Spurrier is recruiting NC HEAVILY, as is Bowden @ Clemson. Tennessee is still grabbing their share of talent.

Did you watch the game vs. Rutgers? UNC couldn't even fill their stadium during the OPENING game? How is that going to impress recruits? Come down to USC and watch 83,000 show up for Vanderbilt...Go to Death Valley (I hate Clemson...but they have a REAL football atmosphere).

Agree with the Sendek comparison. UNC should be happy with an occasional bowl game. With what they have, and where they are located...not to mention lack of fan support...enjoy what you have.
