UNC Recruitment

Thought we were done. Wesley Saunders...number 8 player in the state of NC commited to the Gamecocks last night. That gives us 5 of the top 11 in NC...

 

BTW Rival's rankings are HORRIBLE this year. Scout did a much better job. Still South Carolina got the majority of NC talent regardless of those ranking disputes.

 

I'm not comparing Butch Davis and Chuck Amato, I'm saying if you are wanting Butch Davis to get players from Florida to come to NC and play then go right ahead. Amato already got some of the best players out of Florida that would come out of state (NOT THE BEST PLAYERS IN FLORIDA) and we all saw what that got us...nothing. So, I'm saying Butch would be better off trying his luck in other states, because the fact of the matter is the players that make a difference in Florida will stay in Florida or will go to one of the powers in college football like a Michigan, OSU, Texas, LSU, etc., not UNC and not NC State. I'm aware there are exceptions, but that's the "exception" rather than the rule.

 

By the way, apparently Marvin Austin...a 5* DT from the DC area is going to commit to UNC...that's a HUGE pickup for Davis.

 

I've heard its still 50/50 between UNC and FSU. Every pickup the staff gets this year is nice, but I think more than anything this year is about establishing the staff with area High schools. I think next year will be a different story as far as Klempson and USuCk raiding NC talent. So far its early, but Tom O'Brien doesn't really seem to be a real recruiting threat.

 

Davis looks to be setting up piplines in Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, and of course NC. I'd really like to see him go after Georgia talent, but I'm not sure how tough it is to get in there. What helps him right now, is that a lot of the kids hitting college were just gaining interest in football when he was at Miami, and a LOT of them in Florida know of him because of that. That should help him with that recruiting base.

 

FSU insiders appear to be conceding MA to UNC. I still dont trust that fuck Bobby and i'm sure he still has some shit up his sleeve (probably cash or free shoes).

 

Bowden's been known to tell recruits to favor the other school to throw them off at the last minute.

 

Weird thing is comments that Austin made today regarding his choice. Basically said he has made his choice and that it had been agonizing, but what he basically did was subtract football out of the equation and just focus on where he would be happiest for four years and long term. Given his stated desire to be a journalist after his football career is over, that has to be a strong signal for UNC.


Unless Bobby wrote that statement. I Just dont trust him, but the best thing is that neither does Butch Davis. He's dealt with Bobby's shit before, having been at Miami.

 

Actually latest word is Austin is telling friends he's going to FSU.
