BUBBLE: North Carolina State, Virginia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina

N.C. State is two games out of first place, yet still a long way from locking up an NCAA bid. Virginia and Georgia Tech each could be interesting test cases for the ".500 or better in conference" argument. And as for UNC? The Tar Heels are in the top 40 of the RPI, yet even further from a NCAA bid -- not to mention finishing .500 in or out of conference. All this means the ACC will likely get at least four teams into the dance, but the fourth spot is far from being determined. All four teams play each other plenty over the final four weeks. None, however, is playing well enough to be considered the favorite to joining Wake, Maryland and Duke in the dance. The Wolfpack have lost four of six games since beating Duke and UNC in back-to-back games to rise to the top of the ACC standings. And the news got even worse outside of conference play, as the Pack lost at Temple over the weekend. With games at UNC and Duke still to come, not to mention meetings against Maryland and Wake, it's time for N.C. Sta
te to once again turn things around in a hurry. Georgia Tech has lost two straight, but at least have its toughest remaining games in Atlanta (Duke and Wake Forest). Virginia is playing like, well, Virginia, in February -- even allowing Duke to finally find a place it can win on the road. It's hard to explain, really. The Cavaliers have victories at Maryland and over Wake Forest, yet since February started, have lost by 20 at Georgia Tech, by 14 in Chapel Hill, and most recently, by 18 on their own court to Duke. Finally, there is North Carolina. The Heels are just seven spots lower than the Terps in the latest RPI, yet four games behind 'em in the ACC standings. The non-conference victories over Stanford and Kansas, and a four-game skid in the ACC, explain the difference between the RPI and ACC standings. UNC still has to go to Maryland and Wake Forest and finish with Duke. Taking two of those three, not to mention beating both N.C. State and the Yellow Jackets at home, equal a .500 ACC record.

like i said we beat MD Duke wake and ST or GT and we are in

Not to mention he isn't back yet, and you never know how good he will be until he plays.

UNC could lose their remaning regular season games and Dukey would still be talking about how they might win the ACC tourney and get the NCAA bid.

NORTH CAROLINA: If Sean May comes back and is effective then the Tar Heels could easily get hot to win the ACC tournament.
