Where's the love, fever? Feeling the pressure? Why pick on little old Charlotte, we're no competitor of yours. The Tar Heels are so far above us, Coach Gut cancelled the return game to Halton after the second overtime game a few years back when you actually had some talent.

Oh yes, we're 7-8 right now and I'll guarantee you we'll win more than 8 games too. I'm not running to hide, I never said we'd be a 20-win team this season, I personally said 15-12 would be a success this year. But I can tell you there is an open contract on Judy Rose's desk for UNC to come to Halton Arena anytime Dean will allow it. At least Alabama and Arizona aren't skeered to do that.

Now if you want to take shots personally at my 49er loyalty, go right ahead. I was chief statistician on the 1977 Final Four team and I've held season tickets since the 1981-82 season, traveling to at least 3/4 of the home games from High Point every year. It does include some teams in the 80's during Wisselball that you wouldn't have ever attended and less than 1000 often did in the old Coliseum. But I was there supporting them regardless. So don't call me a bandwagoneer. I'll take the good (last year was one of the greatest coaching jobs ever by Lutz) and the bad (this season is nothing compared to a couple of those Hal Wissel coached teams).

Take your shots, fever. The guys in light blue that are hunting, not all the fans of the other schools searching for the Tar Heel horseshoe. It's the people like you that make me dispise Carolina.

I went to UNCC and I would never admit to traveling to watch them play. When I was a student they didn't even bother letting the students know when the games were much less where. UNCC has the saddest campus life of any college I know. Maybe things have changed in the last 10-15 years, but I doubt it.

Let me add that when I was a student the 49ers played in what looked like a high school gym. The new arena is bad ass, so I can't understand why it isn't packed for every game. Guess it goes back to the commuter life style UNCC can't shake.

riddel, plain and simple, I'm a fan, I support them, not a fair weather part-time fan. I understand the marketing of the program is not what is should've been and still isn't today.

There is no finer building of its size (and even larger) than the Barnhardt SAC/Halton Arena. And it was full last night for the Marquette game.

I'll agree with you on the quality of Halton Arena, but not on the fact that if was full last night. It was a Saturday night and I saw plenty of green seats. UNCC doesn't need to advertise on WFNZ or TV, they need to get in the dorms and advertise to the students make them understand the importants of fan support.

Maybe if they sat a keg infront of Halton and sold nickel beer they would turn out. That's about the only thing UNCC's students respond to.

HP, first of all I didn't start this with you, second and not to knock the 49ers anymore than they need, but you can only schedule so many games in a year. Now I would rather play UNCC than I would some of the teams we played, but there is no way in hell that I would play UNCC over UConn or UK. That would be like watching The Apple Dumpling Gang over The Outlaw Josey Wells.

    :D

Of course you guys can start to turn things around next year just like we are trying to do this year. You do have a player or two coming in.

Want to know what would solve UNCC's 'reputation' problem? Football.( I know I'm beating a dead horse) The school has over 19,000 students but no football. Football keeps students on campus for the weekend. Football makes students aware of other activities on campus. UNCC has no college atmosphere and is basically a 4 year community college. I hope that lady gives UNCC a ton of money. I cant see how she can match what UNCC could earn by just adding a football program.

    Two things I see:

We're not as old as other campus. The University of North Carolina @ Charlotte was established in 1965. So capital isn't there to do the "extra" curricular activities. Universities like NC State and Chapel Hill were established in 1789 and 1887 respectively, and have the generated revenue under their belts to do whatever needs to be done.

With that being said, Raleigh and Chapel Hill revolved their cities around their universities. It's their economic staple and what drives commerce for them. UNC Charlotte I find is the exact opposite.

So I see where some of you guys are coming from but that's what you need to understand. It has gotten better over the years on campus. The campus is flourishing and buildings are rising around every corner. We still a growing tradition.

I have actually been to a few good concerts over there as well. Not sure what all it takes to start a football program with nothing in place.

UNCfever, you miss my point. It's a guaranteed money game to the schools either way, little to no travel expenses involved. Find out what they paid Davidson for 2 games in Chapel Hill. Do you realize what the nobody schools "make" for a loss in December? High Point University was given $50000 each time to travel to Kentucky and the same amount a week later to travel to Washington State for a one game trip. And there wasn't any TV revenue for those games. Why do you have to go to the other end of the country just to play a game?

Not "plenty" of green seats but there admittedly were a few. "Full" at least in the lower level except for the money people, which means the corporate purchased 40 yard line seats were sitting in someone's desk in a downtown Charlotte office.

My biggest beef would be that the students get an entire side of the building (4500 seats) and are not supporting it. The future season ticket holders won't like it upstairs (not that the seating is poor). Right only there are only about 1500 season tickets available on the lower level, $5000+ minimum total contributions to be there. Savio mentions tradition... yes it's coming. And there's no way in hell that you would get a seat in that location at any other 100 year old university in the country either for that price.

I know it's been discussed to death. Bear, I'm waiting for football just as much as anyone. But I'm still trying to figure out who is going to fund the $10 million startup costs and then the continued dollars just to fund scholarships and facilities. Can UNCC fund 75 football players when all sports aren't fully scholarshipped now? ($2.1 million was raised for athletic scholarships last year.) Could they get 5 Division I-A schools to play them somewhere (another question in itself) in Charlotte with an average attendance of 15,000? If the Panthers can't draw 60,000 regularly and the Hornets couldn't draw many more than us, I darn sure know UNCC won't draw 15,000 in a startup period.

I can think of many more good uses for money to be spent. Universities are for higher education and research after all.
