    Now that you mention it (from a post on thedevilsden.com):

    This is in the March 3-16, 2005 issue of the ACC Sports Journal. Sorry I can't link it since it is a premium site.

    Some points made -

    Since the 2001 Final Four a large portion of the college basketball world believes that Duke gets the calls. This came out of controversy because of the Baxter/Boozer call and the Williams/Garnder call, complaints from Gary and Lute and the Billy Packer "Duke makes more FTs that their opponents shoot" mantra.

    A study of free thorw differentals reveals:

    1. The home team usually gets the calls.
    2. The best teams get the calls.
    3. In the ACC the last 10 years (1995-2004), Duke has dominated the league in wins but not in free throw differential

    Duke +473 118-42
    Wake +374 95-65

    Looks like UNC is getting all the calls and Duke and MD are getting screwed.

    Coach Prosser's comments after Wake's loss at Cameron this year "They do a great job of guarding hard without fouling. We have to learn to do a better job of that, because if seems like we foul more than they do, and we're trying to guard as hard as they are." Yet in that game, the Deacons shot more FTs than Duke did, and the Deacons actually were shooting a lot more FTs until committing 5 fouls (sending Duke to the line 10 times) in the final 1:14.

    Bottom line - there is no quantitative evidence that Duke gets favorable treatment by the refs. In fact if you look at the FT differential number you could argue that UNC and wake are favored.
