I can only assume that that was a result of the conversation between Galadriel and Elrond. She was explain to Elrond that they shouldn't flee and they should help Man. Of course this is the same thinking the Elrond had in the Council in the Fellowship so I'm wondering why in the hell he changed his way of thinking. I assume that they had that conversation via the power of the rings they wear.

Of course what I noticed was that it took the main characters (in the book) about three months to get to helms deep. It only took the elves about two days. WTF is that shit?

Finally saw the movie this weekend, and even tho I was prepared to absolutely love the movie and couldn't believe couz and other comments, I have to agree. Jackson, while I understand the limitations of a movie vs. a book, did some things that he didn't need to, things that varied from the book:

Saruman didn't possess Theoden, he just used Wormtongue to confuse Theoden. Faster/easier to just have him be possessed, I guess.

He left out the Hurons, the "bad-ass" trees that wiped out a whole troop of Urukai in the book. The Urukai went into their forest and then "the whispering" began and they were gone. Jackson briefly alluded to this in the movie when Legolas and Aragorn are in the forest and Legolas says "something is happening" (or something like that) in Elvish. Again, time constraints I suppose.

In the book there was no attack when Theodens people were evacuating to Helms Deep. Added more action.(wrong, it was mentioned in the book, but no narrative of the attack was in the book)

In the battle of Helms Deep, in the book I do not remember gunpowder or explosives. Am I wrong here?(yes, I'm wrong)

Legolas' surfing was a little much, as somebody else mentioned.

In the book I believe the Ents helped a little at Helms Deep, the Elves did not.(Ents weren't at Helms Deep, neither were the elves. Also, Aragorn, Legolas and Eomer (? - the banned son) were all together at Helms Deep when the battle began, somebody else -can't recall name-along with Gandalf showed up at the end to save the day. None of the Aragorn riding hurt and solo crap)

And the one thing that really ticked me off because it served no purpose in terms of shortening a book into a movie: Faramir did NOT take Sam and Frodo to Osgiliath, he simply let them go at their secret hideout behind the waterfall. WHY did Jackson do this? And the Nazgul "almost" getting Frodo??? In the book, the way the Nazgul are described, Frodo would have been doomed instantly had such a situation happen.

Curious as to why Jackson saved the scenes in the tunnel near Cirith Ungol for the last movie. Good place to stop and adds more action to the "sort of slow" third book, I guess. For those who don't know about Cirith Ungol, Gollum mentions killing Sam and Frodo at the end of the movie, then says, "no, we lets HER do it for us".....hope you aren't scared of spiders heh heh. Those scenes should be awesome.

Overall a good movie, thought I didn't enjoy it as much as I did the first. Gollum's animation was incredible.

me and the wife got the books out last nite..tried to post then but the board was whacked

Probably because other attempts at making a movie from the books were horrible, and I was so happy that the first movie was so good. It also stuck more with the book than the second one did. I think it was very good, I'll see it again or get the DVD, but I guess I was spoiled by the first. The special effects were outstanding, better than the first.

Legolas is  I loved him surfing down the stairs firing arrows like a machine gun. I love it when archers shoot a ton of arrows and their quiver is still full when the battle is over. Like coyboys fighting and no one loses their hat.... lol

This was Erkenbrand I believe. He was like general but I don't believe he was related to Theoden.

Oh shit, how could I have forgotten that part?!?!?! Had that really happened then Sauron would know what they were trying to do. Look at the map in your book. Osgiliath is beyond Minas Tirith so Sauron would know that the Ring was not being taken there to be used against him. The other thing is that once Sauron knew where the Ring was he would have unleashed his entire army upon the place to recapture the Ring.

True, Osgiliath is very close to Mordor, so upon further thought, when Faramir said "we're taking the ring to Minas Tirith" he way overshot his town, didn't he? :)

Erkenbrand, thanks, I couldn't remember his name. In the book he shows up with Gandalf to save the day at Helms Deep. The banned son (still can't remember his name) was there already with everyone else.

Yeah I was disappointed at the way Jackson ripped out entire sections of the book and fudged it all around, even though he did that in the first film, it was validated due to the time constraints, and he released the extended version to make up for it. (Sorta)The only things that really bothered me were the way Jackson portrayed Faramir, Frodo and Sam being taken to Osgiliath, the Ents not going to war? , and the whole bit with the Nazgul. I know Shelob is in the Return of the King, but why did he leave out the confrontation between Gandalf and Saruman after Helms Deep, where Wormtongue throws the seeing stone at Gandalf?

But as "Peter Jackson's The Two Towers" it was a good movie, but the first was a lot better...

Crap. I was trying to remeber what Gollum was talking about there. Haven't read the books for almost 20 years. I do remember a scene with spiders, but I thought it happened in 'Fellowship'.

I DO NOT LIKE SPIDERS.
