Two players the Lions will likely cut could fit here

Discussion in 'Carolina Panthers' started by Tiorted Snoil, Aug 30, 2002.

  1. Eric Davis and Desmond Howard.

the cb situation here is terrible...the Lions lucked and with Chris Cash (6th round), he appears to have won the starting job...Todd Lyght is the other starter with Terry Fair the nickel, then they have Andre Goodman (S. Carolina) as number 4. Davis's speed is gone.

Howard can help offset the loss of bates as a return person. He's listed as a WR but is really a one dimensional player return player only. His speed is gone, not that he was ever fast to begin with. He'll help take the stress off Smith, whom if asked to return kicks and play WR fulltime is an injury waiting to happen.

you really think E.D. is in jeopardy of being cut? Heck, as a stop-gap player, wouldn't be THAT bad considering what we have now IMO.

We should deifnitely sign ED if they cut him, but I don't see them cutting him.

I don't see us signing him either, though. If we wanted him we would have had him by the time he signed. He was waiting on us.

True, but I'd have thought the same about McDaniel.

  6. The Lions signed davis as insurance becaue terry fair had a lingering injury to his foot that wasn't healing.

Now, Fair is 100% and cash is pushing for a starting job....plus they have other young cbs from last year that will make the team...making davis and his salary expandable.

Another factor..strong side backer is weak..Brian willliam is not 100% and his backup is out for a while. the lions will keep and pick up more backer because they are young and relatively deep at cb.

  7. no he wasn't ...there were tens of teams trying to sign him..he chose detroit because he played with Millen (the GM) and he like little Shott's defense, and they play on field turf..which can extend careers.
