Boise State has beaten Oregon and if they win the rest of thair games (toughest left is Fresno at home to end the year) they should get major consideration.

BYU and Utah are each 2-for-2 against BCS conf. opponents. If they remain unbeaten, the winner of their season-ending showdown would almost certainly get in.

so, if these scenarios plays out — Boise and Utah or BYU finishing unbeaten — should both go to a BCS bowl game?

Sure, why not? They've actually played some legitimate BCS teams and won.

Oh, I agree. I'm just looking at years past when Utah, Boise and the like made it in. There seemed to be a lot of skepticism. Now there's a good chance that two will receive major consideration. The whining from those skeptics will be amplified.

The way things are now, the WAC and Moutain West deserve a BCS bid more than the ACC or Big East.

Well a lot of that came because those teams rarely played anyone worth a shit back then. Now they're scheduling some tougher BCS competition and thus earning consideration. It's still a million times easier to go undefeated in the MWC or WAC than SEC, obviously, but non-BCS schools can only schedule so many BCS opponents. If they pick a couple that aren't total cupcakes, then they deserve to get in.

And for the record, the ACC is a solid conference yet again. Last year the ACC had the best record versus the other BCS conferences, and they'll probably finish only behind the SEC in that category this year. The problem is that the ACC has no great teams, just a lot of solid ones.

That's as good a reason as any to ignore/criticize unbeaten non-BCS teams. But Utah did play and beat three BCS conference teams in '04, albeit lower-level ones (Texas A&M, Arizone and UNC) before throttling Pitt in the Fiesta. I think their success went a long way toward helping Boise getting a bid two years later, even though the Broncos' only regular season BCS win was against Oregon State. If Boise does get a bid this year, they will not have done much different from 2006 other than scheduling Oregon instead of Oregon State. Utah is actually playing fewer BCS opponents (two) this year than they did in '04. BYU is playing two such games, against the crud of the Pac 10 (Washington/UCLA).

did the ACC beat the bottom feeders from the other BCS conferences?
