so players are allowed to be there, but not practice, if they signed new deals?

Joseph Person said Rivera said "when, not if" on a vet. Jake and Bulger are the two remaining guys with the most experience at what we do, and our offense, so they make sense.

Brunnel is expected to re-sign w/Jets. I'd prefer Bulger over Jake

    >>>Jets | Three signed
    Sun, 31 Jul 2011 16:02:21 -0700

The New York Jets have re-signed QB Mark Brunell and DT Kenrick Ellis. They also signed free-agent P Chris Bryan (Buccaners). Terms of the deals were not disclosed. <<<

    ALSO -
Tampa Bay signed former Atlanta Falcons punter Michael Koenen to a six-year deal worth $19.5 million. The deal includes $6.5 million in guaranteed money.

hurney must have helped structure that contract

Not encouraging news. Wasn't expecting much out of the rookie =, but now we def need to bring someone in. Not sure there is anything valuable left.

I'm told by a reliable source that CB Brandon Hogan's rookie season might be a wash. His torn ACL not near where it needs to be yet.

Wrong. You get discount prices when you are playoff team. When you are 2-14, the player has the leverage. I don't think Ray Edwards is signing with Carolina at that price.

I know that Hurney has made terrible deals when we have had winning teams, but for right now this is our only option.

Hogan was a gamble that did not pay off. We def need to add a corner now.

Edwards' price cut was definitely a bigger surprise than Johnson's higher end.

Edwards wasn't with Carolina, but you could sign him for $35 or even $40 million and it still would have been a vastly better deal than what we gave to Johnson. Moreover, you're also undeniably wrong about players never re-signing at a discount with their own team if it had a bad record. It happens all the time. You wouldn't expect as big if a discount as a great team would get, but it's still there for most. Meanwhile the Panthers overpay by tens of millions of dollars regardless of their record. Thanks, Hurney.

No, it most certainly isn't. Other teams don't do this. Look around at the signings of even the other bad teams. No one is ridiculously overspending like this, which is why the Panthers are the laughingstock of the league over the last week. Look at what national columnists, analysts, and even other fans are saying about Carolina. We're a joke, and it's because of Hurney.
