Happy Cucktoberfest, everybody! I can't think of a more fitting way to kick off this glorious month than to recap Sunday's epic, road victory against a playoff opponent. Enjoy!

    NOT AN EXPLOSIVE GAME

If you like offense, go fuck yourself, because there was none of it in this one. Each team had two explosive plays a piece, and one of Houston's was the checkdown to Hyde where Carolina forgot to cover him for whatever reason. Obviously, we were lucky not to give up two bombs for the second week in a row, but all in all, credit to Bradberry and Cockrell for holding Houston's wide receivers in check. Hopkins and Fuller were relegated to 8 receptions for 64 yards. Even if one of the deep balls were completed, it would have been a decent performance. We do need to figure out why Boston and Reid continue to let receivers get wide open down the post, because better quarterbacks are going to exploit this weakness eventually.

    GOOD KYLE/BAD KYLE

    GOOD KYLE

There's not much else you can say about posterizing J.J. Watt. Like I said, it's a legendary moment. It's equal parts grit, athleticism, awareness, and if we're being honest, luck - but it takes a brave soul to stare annihilation in the face and come out on top. Most quarterbacks would eat the sack. Can you imagine Derek Carr or Matt Ryan pulling that shit off? I can't. Allen's ability to stand in the pocket under duress and deliver a pass is a special quality. Another thing I really like about Kyle is that when a DB has his back turned, he'll give his receiver a chance. This is how we drew the PI to Samuel on the first series (also, credit to Samuel for selling the foul). So far, I'm trilled that we're getting this much production out of an undrafted quarterback.

    BAD KYLE
Obviously, it's the fumbles. Fuck. Teams have clearly noticed a hitch in his wind up, and they're going to keep exploiting it. If we can't fix this, it's a catastrophic bug, and it forces Norv to dramatically scale back the offense as if we were stuck with Alex Smith. Oh well. Get healthy, QB1.

    WAVES OF PASS RUSHERS

TIGHT! TIGHT TIGHT! I love this shit.

    Mario Addison - 53 snaps - 2 sacks
    Gerald McCoy - 46 snaps - 1 pressure
    Brian Burns - 38 snaps - 0.5 sacks, TFL
    Dontari Poe - 38 snaps - 1 tackle
    Bruce Irvin - 27 snaps - 1 sack, 1 pressure
    Christian Miller - 19 snaps
    Kyle Love - 19 snaps, 1 tackle
    Efe Obada - 13 snaps - 1 tackle
    Marquise Haynes - 12 snaps
    Vernon Butler - 11 snaps - 1 sack
I'm sure this is what Ron has always fantasized about, but could never quite get there under Dave Gettleman's Reign of Error. I almost feel guilty having so many options, but not really.

CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY, THE BEST RB IN FOOTBALL

Amazing. 37 touches, 179 yards, and he never comes of the field. It's an amazing feat of athleticism. Now, I think the latter is somewhat stupid. In a perfect world, I'd like to have a complementary power back who can grind out 5-8 carries. At this rate, there's a good chance we'll give him arthritis by age 26, but since the team appears set on doing this, we might as well enjoy the show. Having a RB who can turn checkdowns into chunk gains just isn't fair, but life isn't fair. Like I said, Happy Cucktoberfest.

    WHERE WERE THE TIGHT ENDS???

This was odd. Olsen was not involved despite being our best receiver not named Christian McCaffrey, and we continue to relegate Ian Thomas to emergency reserve status, which is frustrating. I get that we want Manhertz as the blocking TE, but is Thomas so bad of a blocker that you can't justify getting him and Olsen on the field, at least sometimes? It doesn't make any sense to me, and I haven't heard any of the cokehead reporters asking Rivera for a reason why.

    LITTLE MAKING BABY STEPS

Greg Little has made progress since his terrible training camp performance. It's clear that the staff is gaining confidence in his ability, throwing him into a two minute drill last week, and leaving him relatively isolated against Mercilus on Sunday. He did get beat on a spin move. I've noticed that he fans out wide, so it's not surprising that rushers will try to counter this, but overall he's done a nice job of running them out of the play. He also did a nice job when we ran an outside zone to his side, knocking Mercilus off balance, rendering him useless on the play. The athleticism is there and it's a big upgrade from Williams. If he can solidify that spot, it opens up options for Norv and Matsko, but perhaps they'll continue to roll with the solid Greg Van Roten and keep Williams as the sixth man of the line.

    DARK PROEHL STRIKES AGAIN

For a supposed slot specialist, Jarius Wright makes a ton of plays down the field. He really does remind me of Ricky Proehl, a guy who, if you weren't careful, could sneak past your secondary and make acrobatic catches. And he's clutch as fuck. It's a shame that Cam was so shitty after injuring this shoulder last year, because he had two would-be game winning catches that were overthrown. He knows how to get open against man, and he knows how to find the soft spot in zone. He's proving to be a quality, under the radar addition by Marty 2.0. I hope we continue to expand his role.

Two road wins with a back-up QB, and a defense that's starting to find it's mojo. If we get to that bye at 3-3 or better, and get Cam healthy, this team will do damage over the last 10 games. I'm excited. Plus, Atlanta is 1-3.
