I hope so too. We actually might be thick at corner:

    Cousins
    Howard
Fair / Wesley / McDaniel / Rashard / Brad Franklin

Not any huge playmakers, but hardly a need. I just hope there's an offensive guy there worth the pick and the money the pick will cost.

Terry's last name is Cousin, not Cousins...I'm so tired of hearing that shit, nothing personal, but even the damn Fox announcers called him Cousins sometimes LOL

And it's not a given that Fair will be here, he's UFA and anyone can sign him.

I think some of you might be missing the forrest for the trees. If we can add a top notch corner to our defense then it will be a rival for Tampa for the best in the league. We wont have to do a whole lot on offense if our defense is that good. If we had not given up leads in so many games last year we would have been in the playoffs. Think back, we lost to Dallas because we could not stop the pass late in the game. We lost to the Cards for the same reason. In fact we have lost a whole lot of games the past two years because we could not stop a team when they went to a two minute offense. If we bring in a top corner and then have Cousin and Howard to go with him that should come to a stop. Our defense is good and young, if we finish it off with a top corner then it should carry our team for years.

I do think our offense needs a lot of help but we will have other draft picks and a little free agency money that can help it. If we draft OL in round two and Wide out in round three we can bring in a Stephen Davis and a Charlie Batch and be OK on offense.

Our defense would have been as good as Tampas this year if our Offense had been able to keep the ball longer.

I'm torn, but I say best available. It really sucks that WR and QB and RB ain't best available - unless they drop.

not sure i would agree with either argument. first, there's no guarantee that a corner drafted highly would be able to come in and make a significant improvement right off the bat. it seems to me that corners often take longer to develop than most positions -- short of QB. and i have seen a couple top ten corners go bust rather quickly (and i don't really pay close attention -- piper could probably give us some stats).

which brings me to your second argument. you point to games we lost thru the first part of season and you could just as easily point to the offense. but saying you're right that we lost all those games due to our corners, it just seemed to me that there was a lot of improvement in our dbs over the last half of the year such that we started winning despite our lack of an offense. and without Peppers and Morgan. i think grant's play in particular improved significantly and he was providing the all-pro caliber safety net that he was not in the earlier part of the year. experience counts a lot and our dbs gained a lot last year. let's get some help for our putrid offense.

The reason why we lost many of those games is because we went into the "Prevent us from Wining" defense. If we had stayed the course defensively and kept applying pressure, instead of dropping back and allowing the underneath stuff...things MIGHT have been different?

    >>Our defense would have been as good as Tampas this year if our Offense had been able to keep the ball longer.

Also would have been better if we had had a lead more.

But we certainly wouldn't, and won't, have a good defense if we just stand totally pat on it. We shouldn't get drastic or anything, but there's room to improve.

And we won't have as good a D statistically when we have to face more teams that have good offenses. Our schedule was weak as hell this year.

I think you have to get the guy who'll impact you the most. Not necessarily best athlete, because it's totally possible that Suggs or Henderson could be the best athlete out there. But you take the guy who'll improve your team the most, and I do think that more production at corner is a goal to have. If AJ is there, or Leftwich, those are better than Trufant and harder to come by.

Palmer, Leftwich, Rodgers, and Johnson are the only other guys I'd want that are potential top ten picks. They should be long gone by #9.

Of course, there's always OT. Which I don;t really like either.

And there we are - still not ONE first round pick on offense, other than Steussie and he weren't ours.
