Little Blackie was tired until that bullet hit his brain. The plus side to Mattie's snake bite is lessened her opportunity to chew her fingernails

I think the reason for most of the changes to the storyline were so it would sit well with the audiences back in 1969. No one back then wanted to see a young girl lose her arm. With the violence in movies today it is no big deal. Jeff Bridges played Rooster more rough than John Wayne did but that is part of the change in culture as well. John Wayne took some risks in the original. He was shown as drunk and falling off his horse. I do not remember him doing that very often in his earlier movies. He also cursed on screen for the first time. His performance was edgy for it day. If 40 years from now they remake it again I suspect that the Jeff Bridges version will look a lot softer than it does today.

They are both pretty good movies and I think you can like them both at the same time.

He had his back broke twice, his hip once, one lung taken out from lung cancer, he is over 100 years old and has been dead for over thirty years but on his worst day he would still beat the hell out of you.

That was a line from The Cowboys, modified a bit to fit the situation.

I like westerns so it is good they made another one but I am not sure I will be able to watch it for what it is without constantly comparing it to the original. :PubDrink:
