unless you enjoy seeing lots of naked brad pitt, don't bother.

it's a totally forgettable movie. and a long one at that.

I disagree. Beyond Pitt being a little overexposed, it was a great movie.

it's the first written story brought to film. hard to cram 12,000 lines of prose into 3 hours.

this movie has some of the same people that were in homer's illiad, but it was missing a lot of them. they turned the entire greek-trojan war (10+ years) into a two-week event. i'm not sure what the reviews are saying, but i, for one, didn't know how to feel about the movie: who to root for, who to dislike (other than agamenon), what motivated achilles to act so bold, flippant, defend one girl, sleep with random women, avenge his cousin, send his troops home -- too confusing and not very well thought through by the writers or directors. the best character was hector -- he was the star.

Because he was only vulnerable if he was hit in one spot. His left? heel.

well, that was another thing they never addressed -- his background. i mean, the whole war started at the wedding of his parents. no mention. no real getting into the story -- the real story.

this was a brad pitt vehicle and it fell flat. they had a great opportunity, too.

not nearly the heart or story of russel crowe's "gladiator".

Nah, they address the details you mention but are vague about it. This is more about one kings greediness and Achiles' last battle. If anyone knows Greek Mythology they will get "the big picture" while those who want to see an epic type film will like the "chapter". This deserves a big screen so don't wait for the DVD. The three hours felt like one and a half hour.

sounds like an extended version DVD is the best bet. some stories are too big to tell in the alloted time -- even if they go with a 3 hour movie. lord of the rings is right on the edge of this. the extended versions are way better but not really watchable in one sitting. i can't imagine troy is a shorter story than any of the 3 lotr books.

but they even messed that up -- unlike what you see in the movie, achilles died before the trojan horse. he was never around to see the fall of troy. and all but one person -- aneas ("the aneaid" was the chronocling of his post-troy venture) escaped troy.

and menalaus never died in homer's version. in fact, helen went back with him and he let her live.

AND they didn't show it, but the war was supposed to be over when hector's boy was sacrified.

what i'm saying is that this movie could have been FANTASTIC. all it turned out to be was another hack-em-up movie that allowed brad pitt to show off how much he's worked out over the past three years.

some of the fight scenes need to be seen on the big screen, for sure. i wish the hector/achilles battle had been longer.
