More like a short term contract. He deserves more than league minimum.

Ain't likely he plays for us but incentives based on whether he can win a starter's job and playing time would be reasonable.

Exactly, we do not need another guy like that. Save the money and use it to re-sign Spoon or McCree or Carstens.

Starting two SSs is another one of those instances where people ignore or argue with me for months on end until they finally realize that I was correct all along. Honestly I'm surprised people haven't caught onto that yet, so feel free to get on board. It's probably still early enough that you can get in your "I told you so"s after we re-sign McCree, continue starting the two guys we have, and continue to have major problems covering people downfield.

I wanted Vincent at corner at that point. I'll own it, and the changes in PI enforcement hurt him (as it did C2 safeties, to a point). We did fine to improve corner, if not for spending tons on it (and we're certainly getting more for our money than anyone who spent in 03).

I don't think our pass D is that awful. Could be better, yeah, as could most everything. As long as we play C3 and have zone safeties, I'm allright with two quality safeties rather than one being required to be 'free' when we won't use him that way.

I realize that we start two safeties who are not great in coverage and who are more suited to play strong safety than free safety in the traditional sense of those terms. The point is though that it worked pretty well this season and I do not want to mess with it, especially when you are talking about bringing in a 35 year old guy who probably wants more than a short term deal for the minimum. McCree has shown he can play well enough to start and he has value even if it is as depth once TD surpasses him. I would rather sign a lesser player who is a long term guy than an old guy who is a one year patch at best.

I really do not see that we struggled with our pass coverage down the field. Sure we gave up a few long passes but to say it killed us is not correct. I honestly think our situation at nickel corner is more important to our deep pass coverage than our safeties.

Yup, 9th overall passing defense, allowed 2nd fewest passing TD, 4th in the league in INTs, allowed 3rd fewest passing plays of +20 yards, etc.

    Simply horrific!!! Fire them all!!!

Vincent would replace Minter at FS, and Mike would move back to SS - I would assume. I think it would improve our pass defense slightly, considering that Troy was an excellent man to man DB in Philadelphia, and Minter isn't particularly great when forced to single in on a receiver. But I'd still consider it a worthless signing given his age and declining ability. To be honest, I would just as soon bring Bashir back.

I wouldn't say that our safeties have been horrible. While he's had problems in the redzone, McCree has done a fair job at his position. Minter would probably be better off switching back, but I worry that Minter at SS and player X at FS wouldn't be much better than what we already have.

For what we paid for McCree he had a great year. He may not be the second coming of Ronnie Lott but for a guy we picked up for next to nothing he did great. I think he is worthy of a modest contract in the three year range. We might be able to improve on him but it would sure be nice to make whoever we get to do that beat him out of a job first. Thomas Davis has not done it yet.

    I disagree. Bashir was awful.

VIncent at FS and Minter at SS wouldn't be bad at all, depending on the money, with age a concern; if you wanted to put together one year, and McCree was horrible, and you didn't want to give Branch another shot, that'd be a great way to go for a year, maybe two. As long as we don't give McCree tons of money, we're as well off in theory and certainly without the chance of failure that an unknown would have.
