I honestly do not understand how you could walk away in a situation like that.

But you said that you would have and let the parents take over. That's what I meant.

    I edited...

If she were going to be in a vegetative state like Terri...I would have had to go. I was 31 when that happened and would not have allowed myself to be burdened down like that. No one should. I/we were living like a 70 year old's with doctor after doctor and prescription after prescription.

Luckily no more doctors and NO MORE MEDS.

It's weird how inlaws react. Her dad wanted to blame me for this in the worst way...I could feel it. He was very up in our business and finances and questioning me on everything. I took him to a meeting with my attorney as I was trying to get guardianship...I had nothing to hide. This guy was such an asshole that my atty. told him he would no longer answer his questions and if he wanted legal representation he should seek it. I had to open up my entire life to anyone that had "interest" in my wife's well being which included previous years tax returns, our debt etc. Not once did he ever call me man-to-man and ask ME how I was doing...neither did her brother. Her mom was pretty cool...but she lived with us and wanted to stay.

Needless to say...her dad is not too welcome in MY house.

I'm not trying to say it was an easy situation. I'm just saying that if I were in that case I do not think that I would not let anyone take over her care. I'm not judging you. Just offering my opinion.

I understand and no offense taken. It's a call you pray to God every night you dont have to make. I guess children and other circumstances would weigh in and no two situations are the same....just like no two brain injuries are the same. Being a caregiver, like that, is a 24/7/365 job and is mentally and physically exhausting.
