If anyone is unfortunate enough to have a loved one suffer a TBI due to a car wreck or any other circumstance and you want/need to talk to someone...drop me a line.

My wife was almost killed 12/8/01 when broad sided by a delivery truck. She was in a coma for 8 days and ultimately spent 6 weeks in the hospital and Charlotte Institute of Rehab. There was a point in time where she was not able to match colored pairs of socks together. I saw a lot of ruined lives in that place and completely understand the heartache family members go through when something like this happens. She had a tracheotomy, feeding tube, a net bed that prevented her from getting out of it...etc. I had a lot of tough decsisions to make regarding her medical treatment and had to obtain guardianship over her to manage her finances while she was not able...not to mention dealing with her parents.

Miraculously...today she is once again totally independent. She is driving her own car to her own destinations, working part time handling her own finances and I continue to see improvements...3 1/2 yrs after the wreck. I would bet that if you met her on the street you wouldnt know she ever went through any of this.

Im sharing this for others who may have to deal with something like this. There is not a lot of support out there...at least not readily available in a time of crisis...and I would be happy to share more of what I've gone through with others if they would like to know.

Sorry to hear about that Yankee. Thanks for taking the time to offer your support.

I have a really good friend who had a wreck in high school and was in a coma. She had to re learn everything, how to walk, talk, write...everything.

I didnt know it until she told me a couple of years ago, I could never tell before. Again, thanks for sharing.

That was a really amazing post SY and thanks for sharing it. I remember in an earlier thread, reading what you went through with her accident - and honestly, it's a testament to you that you stuck by her through her recovery and rehabilitation. Many partners / husbands / wives do not. It's never easy becoming the primary caregiver to someone you love - I grew up being one to my sister, who was handicapt. There is little support for those in our situation - there are few who know what a struggle it can be. I'm glad she is doing so well SY - keep on rockin' ;).

When life throws you lemmons...make lemonade...the non-alcoholic kind. To prevent me from going totally balistic when all of this happened...I swore off of alcohol. Six months went by before I had a drink. Once things calmed down...I was able to begin to live again for me. There are many unexpected curves in this road called life...please buckle up.

you and your wife have a living will because of that? You could have very easily been a shiavo case...or whatever her name is.

yes. this case would have never come to a fiasco like shiavo. i woulda walked away and let her parents/family care for her. that decison to leave or not was a tough one. it's kinda hard to divorce someone you have custody over.

you spend a lot of time making up girlfriends. this doesn't seem to be a stretch for you.

if it is true, then remind me to kick your ass if I ever meet for being such a dipshit husband.
