I seem to remember that in the 60's...

That Hendrix opened in Charlotte for the Monkeys. Does anyone remember that? Like 1965-67ish?

    I like Teen Spirit

I actually like the Tori Amos version better than I do the Nirvana. But then again, I've been known to march to a different drummer.

I sort of stopped listening to Nirvana when I started listening to Jawbreaker. SLTS was never one of my favorite songs by them. I really got tired of most of the singles from that album. "Lounge Act" and "Drain You" are great songs though.

There are two things that I can not believe about this thread: 1) Nobody has mentioned Skynyrd as one of the bands and 2) Nobody has mentioned Freebird as one of, no, THE song.

    Skynyrd? seriously?

As far as Outkast's specific song mentioned - what keeps that from being rock? That a guy who raps sang it? I'm not arguing it should be top ten, but because a rap artist recorded it doesn't change that it, specifically, isn't rap.

I must say that "Moody Blues" shouldn't be forgotten, "Nights In White Satin"
