    Bob Dylan?

I have never been a BIG Bob Dylan fan. My friends used to sit around and Listen to Dylan and Frank Zappa (Mothers of Invention). Personally I have a hard time understanding Dylan. (The man just mumbles). I think Lou Reed doesn't get enough credit for his early ablums. (Of course while my friends werelistening to Dylan, I was listening to Alice Cooper!)

You seem to be of a mindset that R&R started in the 70s.

If I were to make a list of Top 10 popular rock songs, in no particular order, I would have...

    "Hound Dog" by Elvis
"Under my Thumb" by the Stones
    "White Riot" by The Clash
    "Oh Boy" by Buddy Holly
"great balls of fire" by JLL
"Stepping Stone" by any and everyone who has covered it, my favorite being the Pistols version
"Good Vibrations" by The Beach Boys
    "My Generation" by The Who

    And, for the new kids...
    "Outshined" by Soundgarden
"Bring Da Noise" by Public Enemy & Anthrax

That's just a list off the top of my head, not really the top 10, but much more R&R in the purest sense. Far from being my favorites, but all great songs.

Great list. Not sure about "Stepping Stone" though. I'd probably slap a Hendrix song in the list somewhere. The man basically created the guitar solo that became so prevelant in later rock.

I was in class, just reeling off songs from the top of my head.

"All along the Watchtower" by Hendrix

Two reasons, Hendrix is great and it's the best cover ever. The fact that Dylan wrote it doesn't hurt.

If Elvis can be categorized as RnR, I can be a straight woman. Elvis was a non-talented joke. A pretty face in the right place at the right time.

Well, I guess we'd better go rewrite the history books because you don't like him.

    You're Straight?

His Acting may have been "B" grade, but he did have merit as a singer.

    Who?

I agree that Hendrix and the Who should be in there as well. There are a lot of artists that didn't have all that many hits, but influence others. (Otis Redding, come to mind) I also think that "November Rain" by Guns & Roses should get a nod.
