So did I, but I forgot that his Texas contract was initially only for 750k a year. He's making considerably more than that now, obviously. And yeah, I don't blame him for leaving a place that probably couldn't sustain a winner for a place where it's possible to compete for a national title every year.

I'd considered listing some names, and figured it was just a setup. Glad I didn't take the time.

That's what really struck me. They were playing a Division IA school for the OPENER and there were tons of empty seats. How is that going to look for a recruit? You aren't winning...but you can't sell fan support either.

Yeah - they were ranked really high under Crum (and I have entirely blocked out the memory of that ************), but mostly with Dooley's players. I should have been more specific there. They were ranked way high in 82, but lost the opener to Pitt, at Pitt.

Yep. And it wasn't an easy decision for him, but in the end, he just couldn't turn down the opportunity to be the hero in Austin. And you can't really blame him.

So, 3 coaches had the Heels as consistent top 25 selections. Hardly a fluke, wouldn't you say?

When the team is good, the atmosphere improves, there is no doubt about that. But for big games, Kenan can rock. When you are getting your ass handed to you, not so much. I've been to Clemson, Tennessee (when they almost lost to Wake Forest, lol), FSU, UVA, Duke......

And i'm telling you Kenan can apporach those levels - but you need a consistent good team to make that happen. When LSU came to in a night game (with temp lights) that place was so freaking loud that they didn't know how to react, and that was LSU - they are used to loud.

I didn't say we couldn't be top 25. In fact, I said that I hope for a program where we can consistently hover around the top 25. It's getting back to being a national power that is ridiculously unrealistic. We don't have the fan support, we don't have the recruiting base, and we don't have the reputation. UNC cannot ever get to Miami, FSU, or Notre Dame's level on a consistent basis, and setting your hopes on that will only result in disappointment. Hell, I think our record under Bunting would be pretty decent if not for the ridiculous toughness of our schedules (if we had N.C. State-type schedules, we would be in the top 25 regularly).

That's all I have ever said as well. We should shoot for consistently being top 25 with some forrays into top 10 every few years - which our history has shown is very possible. Once we get that down pat, I'll reassess my expectations.

Don't you think things have changed alot since those days? You didn't have the likes of FSU, Miami and VT in your conference to take your recruits.

Sure, but things have changed at UNC as well. There are very few universities that can bring Carolina's resources to bear on an issue.
