#1 U2, with Rage Against the Machine - Death Valley, Clemson, SC 1998 - One of the most amazing stage shows ever was the Pop Tour. The back stage was the size of a football field. They came out to do the second set in a giant lemon shaped disco ball. They played all of their old stuff in that set about 20 feet from me. Oh, and Rage wasn't that bad either. HA!

#2 Metallica/Guns n Roses, with Faith No More - Columbia, SC, 1992 - What a show. Metallica put on a blistering set that completely showed up anything GnR could have done. This was the second show after Jamed had burned his arm. He didn't play, but he would come out to the crowd taking requests. Unbelieveable. Mike Patton made an ass of himself as usual while taunting security. it rocked. I was 17 years old!

#3 Ozzfest. With Black Sabbath, Rob Zombie, Deftones, Slayer, Slipnkot, System of a Down, others, Verizon Wireless, Charlotte, NC, 1999 - This was the first time I had seen Slayer and Black Sabbath. Sabbath completely rocked the show. I was in awe. Even though we missed some great bands early in the day, the main stage rocked out. Slayer is the hardest band ever.

#4 Summer Sanitarium Tour featuring Metallica, Korn, Kid Rock, System of a Down, and Powerman 5000. Rockingham Speedway, Rockingham, NC, 2001 - Wow what a show. It took us 3 hours to get there, almost raped by Bubba, almost arrested, and we missed half of the show. But Metallica proved once again how great they were. There was hail, lightning, and the worst rain you had ever seen but noone left, nor did the bands. Awesome.

#5 Heavy Metal Hell Night. Pantera, Coal Chamber, and MachineHead, Lawrence Joel Coliseum - THEN - Testament, Stuck Mojo, 5 Times Down, Ziggy's afterparty, Winston-Salem, 1997 - I couldn't hear for 2 weeks. I still have hearing problems thanks to this night. Testament had way too many speakers packed into Ziggys that night. I was almost in tears it was almost painful to stay. But I stayed. Great night of music. Almost 7 hours of it.;)

Freshman year of college, the show that totally opened up the definition of "music" in my eyes. Tower of Power, J.Geils/Magic Dick's 'Bluestime', Robert Cray and the Memphis Horns, B.B. King headlined. 7th row seats. Each opening act did everything great, long sets, jams, really blued out. Then the Old Man came out and gave us three hours. This was back when he could still stand for half the show, and when he still sang any number of his hits from the old days rather than doing some song off a new album or a cover of something every soccer mom can sing to. He was really still on top of his shit back at that point.

Ravi Coltrane, opening of the Aunt Stella Center downtown. John's son performs in the first musical performance of the former church. I had 10th row seat on the middle aisle as I watched the closest thing to actually seeing John Coltrane live.

    Cameo, downtown Charlotte, last year.
This particular show was special because I opened for them :D
Other than that, there really wasn't much to say about it. Just a couple of trailers laid out in a big parking lot.

B.B. King again, Buddy Guy, Susan Tedeschi.
Opened my ears to Susan, who I'd never really paid attention to before then. Caught Buddy Guy, who despite his great efforts to be a legend of entertaining, is really just a hell of a guitar player. Caught the Old Man the second of my three times seeing him.

    DMB, Charlotte
It really just meant a lot to get to go and see them. It wasn't a great show, it showcased a lot of music I felt was their worst to hit the shelves, but it was probably the only time I'll have gotten to see them.

1- Dave Matthews Band- Mile High Stadium, Denver, CO, July 2000- First ever Dave Matthews concert, horrible seats.
2- Live- Wichita KS, May 2000, Cotillion Ballroom- what a horrible little place. Was right up front, Ed almost touched me, the place was so small I saw Chad Gracey (Live’s drummer) walking around during the opening acts.
3- Live- Filmore- Denver, CO, Oct 1999- first concert in 8 years, the entire drive home all I could say was “OH………MY………GOD!” over and over.
4- Dave Matthews Band- May 2002- the Woodlands- Houston TX- two nights in a row- first time I saw “Pig” and “Crush” live. AWESOME seats, spent the whole time watching Dave’s hands…..
5- Dave Matthews Band- Pepsi Center- Denver, CO May 2002- Seats on the floor just inches away from where the avs won the Stanley cup, and the stage was right under the Stanley cup banners. Oh! And I was drunk!! Second show in a row that I saw “Crush”

    Honorable mention:
David Gray- Pepsi Center- Feb 2003
Live and Counting Crows- Fiddler’s Green- Oct 2000- outside, in the freezing rain, Adam Duritz had to use a cheat sheet to sing “Round Here”
