    This is a tough one. A lot of my favorite music is riddled with standards and covers. And here I am in a cover band. Dammit.

    So five universal cover songs:
    mustang sally - by God this will never go away.
    Let's get it on - everyone needs a soulful slow cover song, and this one is overplayed but still good.
    Similarly, Sex Machine by James Brown gets done a lot more than you'd figure.
    Brick House - because band guys like to see girls' butts.
    Free Bird - you can't be in the south and white without playing this at some time, and I didn't have much white music on the list.
