CINEMA-goers have crowned the music from The Lord of the Rings the greatest ever movie soundtrack.

The film beat Star Wars — which came second — and trounced classics like Dr Zhivago and Gone With The Wind.

Schindler’s List came third in the poll of 52,000 Classic FM listeners, while last year’s other wizard release, Harry Potter, was No 14.

But the spine-tingling theme from Jaws failed to make it to the top 30.

Canadian Mr Shore — who picked up an Oscar for Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring — is now working on the theme for the sequel.

It would appear the list was strictly original scores with no lyrics. If that is the case, I'm amazed Danny Elfman didn't make it. He's composed a lot of popular music for recent blockbuster movies. (i.e. Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman, etc.)

Surprising that a Henry Mancini score didn't make it:
    e.g. Pink Panther, Hatari
