"With Panthers defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio getting his first head-coaching gig in Jacksonville, we've gotten word from multiple circles that the leading candidate to replace him is Giants linebackers coach Tom Olivadotti." (PFT)

Man I hope not. He was terrible in Miami. I pulled this from a newpaper in '95 when he was fired.

Dec 31, 1995: -- Olivadotti On The Way Out... --

According to reliable sources in Miami, Tom Olivadotti is definitely going to be fired from his position as defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins. He may stay on as coach of the secondary, but his days as the defensive coordinator are over.

This comes in the wake of Miami's disastrous 37-22 playoff loss yesterday to the Buffalo Bills, in which the Bills rushed for an AFC record 341 yards.

In his 9 year tenure as Miami's defensive coordinator, Miami's defense has ranked in the bottom half of the league for 7 of those 9 years, despite a 100% turnover of personnel.

Also in the rumor-mill is the possibility that Sam Wyche may come to Miami to replace Gary Stevens as offensive coordinator, although this is less certain.

    Some other names

Several names, most with ties to Coach John Fox over the years, have been tossed around in NFL circles already - including Dick LeBeau, Tom Coughlin, Ray Rhodes, Gunther Cunningham, Steve Sidwell and Sam Mills, the Panthers' linebackers coach.

"We're going to take our time and look at all our options, and that would include everybody on the current staff and people outside," Hurney said. "Obviously, we're going to want to keep the same system and look for as much continuity as possible. But I think one of John's strengths has been in picking his staff, so I feel confident we'll come out of this well."

Yeah. And Coughlin. What the fuck? Coughlin is an offensive man.

I'd take Gunther as another choice.

Not Olivadotti. He's been mentioned here twice before. He sucked at Miami, he got fired as a position coach in Minnesota. He's damned old. He's never done anything I'd be proud of, past holding down employment.
