Funny you said that the Bear/Dragon's first 300 pages were hard to get through. I never did finish the book because of that.

So far the first couple chapters move pretty quick. Now they are setting up the rest of the story which you have to wade through but is not the most exciting reading. New cast of characters etc.

Clancy's books always start out excruciatingly slow. Except for 'Red Rabbit'. It was unbearably slow all the way through.

Someone warned me about RR so I skipped it. By the way. A college grad Jack Jr. appears as a major character in this one. Is this the first time?(Since I passed on the last book).

I agree. The Bear and the Dragon wasn't bad at all.

I want another masterpiece like Red Storm Rising. I've reread that one more times than I care to think about.

And the old russian sniper storyline in Bear/Dragon was great and worth finishing the book.

bought it, finished it in 2 days (the beaches in Croatia and a 9 hour flight will help with that).

This is the simplest cash-in story I've seen from Tom Clancy. Very disappointing. No intrigues, no plot twists, no GRAND SCALE like in Red Storm Rising or any of the others.

i think the point is to have an oversimple book with straight forward plot ect. i ought to be done in a day or two, it is still thus far entertaining.

Clancy's book either grab me right at the beginning or they don't. So far this one has not.
