Updated the software on my DVR box yesterday. By force. Without telling me.

    Two things:

    1. It brought my internet connection down for a good 3 hours. That really sucks when you dont know how long its gonna last and tech support bullshits you.

    2. The new Guide software is gayer than the gayest man on TBR. It sucks balls. I hate it.

yep to all of it. You cant do a search for a show and choose to record it. You only set it to remind you the show is coming on. how fucking retarded is that?

yeah, I'm not at all happy with this "upgrade" they forced me to take. I don't like the guide, I don't like the "search" feature they have now just to name a couple of things.

Mine was updated about 2 weeks ago. Looks totally different, but there are more search options. DaveW...what are you talking about? You can still search for a show and choose to record it in the future.

Haven't spent any time with it, but it looks fuzzy and disgusting on my gf's hdtv. The only 'upgrade' that I could see was it seemed to tell how much time was left in a broadcast that was recorded. But, you could probably tell that pretty easy with the old interface. Unless this brings more hd channels I'm against them using their resources like this, the old guide was more than functional.

    Just got it yesterday.

I was about to spaz out like Homer Simpson with all that blue.

Are there any benefits to this supposed upgrade?

The reason they changed the software is because they are changing the format that cable is broadcast. TWCNC is going to switch digital to open up the bandwidth considerably. In the triangle RR is going from 5 megs for standard to 7 and from 8 for turbo to 10. TWC is also adding 60 more HD Channels by the end of the year.

However if fios gets here soon, it won't matter, because it will blow cable and satalite out of the water.
