The following is a B&B post. It does not reflect the views, beliefs, or strategies of the Carolina Panthers.

Hey there. I hope everyone is doing well and eating plenty of toilet paper.

I had some down time today, so I figured I'd go ahead and try my hand at a full mock draft. I'd love to get some feedback. This was based on a compilation of top 250 boards. It's not going to fall exactly like this, but we do the best we can.

    Round 1 - Pick 7

Isaiah Simmons - LB - Clemson
    6'4" 240lbs

Obviously this is contingent on him being available at 7. There seems to be some top 5 buzz at the moment, and I'd rather not trade up, but he checks all the boxes in terms of being a future All-Pro. It's not clear what his best position would be in base defense, but in a league dominated by nickle, it doesn't really matter. Him and Shaq will be the starting linebackers, with Whitehead coming in on run downs. It's hard to to believe we've never drafted a Clemson Tiger, but there's a first time for everything, and this feels like that first time.

My second choice here is: Derrick Brown - DT - Auburn

    Round 2 - Pick 38

Ross Blacklock - DT - TCU
    6'4" 305lbs

Maybe it's a little bit on the nose to compare him to young KK, but that's who he reminds me of. Ran a sub 5.0 40 at the combine, and had a very productive year at TCU after missing the previous season with an achilles injury. Hopefully there's no residual effects with that (it certainly didn't show in 2019). He'll be a rotational player this season before taking over for Short in 2021. Plus, he has the best name in the entire draft.

My second choice here is: Brandon Aiyuk - WR - Arizona State

    Round 3 - Pick 69

Damien Lewis - OG - LSU
    6'2" 330lbs

Your Trai Turner replacement. Lance Zierlein describes him as "a forklift dressed as a right guard", which works for me. And like Turner, he's a subpar pass blocker, but the ball is coming out quick in this offense anyway. Or maybe Joe Exotic can just run it right up the fucking middle. Lewis already knowing the offense is a major plus this year.

My second choice here is: John Simpson - OG - Clemson

    Round 4 - Pick 113

Logan Wilson - LB - Wyoming
    6'2" 250lbs

Some competition with Whitehead at Mike and/or Sam linebacker. Again, maybe a bit of an eye roll to compare him to AJ Klein (you thought I'd say Luke lol), but that's probably what we have here. Jack of all, master of none. The draft experts love his tackling fundamentals. At this point, if you can get a guy who can be a special teams stalwart while not fucking up too much on defense, I can live with that.

My second choice here is: Amik Robertson - CB - Louisiana Tech

    Round 5 - Pick 152

Benito Jones - DT - Ole Miss
    6'1" 316lbs

Solid producer in the SEC with 9.0+ TFL's in each of the last two seasons. The hope is that he would develop into the early down, 1 technique counterpart to Blacklock. From what I gather, he sort of is what he is, but there are worse things than a steady backup.

My second choice here is: Jake Hanson - C - Oregon

    Round 6 - Pick 184

    Josh Metellus - S - Michigan
    5'11" 215lbs

As a lifelong fan/stalker of Jim Harbaugh, I always put a premium on people who've worked for him (which is why I wanted Greg Roman). Metellus is a box safety who will vie for a role on special teams, but could also be big enough and strong enough (20 reps on the bench) to play some nickle linebacker, which would be fantastic.

My second choice here is - Shaquille Quarterman - LB - Miami

    Round 7 - Pick 221

    Grayland Arnold - DB/KR - Baylor
    5'10" 190lbs

Here ya go, Matt. But really, we know multiple Baylor Bears will be joining the squad. This guy will be a free agent if he isn't drafted by us. Arnold lacks a clearly defined position, but I suppose he'll compete at nickleback. Scheme familiarity and punt return ability are pluses. Maybe he can be a Munnerlyn, who knows.

My second choice here is: Shae Patterson - QB - Michigan

    Laments:

    - I wanted to get a cornerback, but I just didn't like what was there. In a rebuilding year, I don't mind rolling with a skeleton crew at that position. Build front to back, always.

    - It's a tough call between Simmons and Brown. I'll take whoever is still available, honestly. But those are my two favorites.

    - I wouldn't mind unloading Samuel if we wanted to move up. I just didn't feel like doing a trade in a mock draft. He seems non-essential with Anderson in the building.

    - Our running back depth continues to be a joke, but again, I just didn't like what was there. And you don't draft for one year.

    - Let's hope Bridgewater stays healthy.

if Detroit or the Giants grab Simmons and somehow Okudah is available, do you take him over Brown or roll with Brown?

I'd take Brown, but I don't think Okudah makes it past Detroit. He's too good of a fit for Patrica's system and they just moved their #1 corner.

Like you, either Brown or Simmons would be great, although I don’t believe Simmons will be there.

Anyone besides me have a nagging feeling they may do something goofy like taking Lamb or Jeudy in the event Brown and Simmons or Simmons and Okudah are gone?

We're probably looking at 3 QBs and Chase Young going in the first 6. So I'd think the Panthers have a pretty good chance of getting some supposedly good starting talent at #7.
Listening to some sports talk radio today and evidently the Vegas odds makers only have the Panthers favored in one game and that is the Detroit game by 1 point. Another one, and I can't remember which one was a pick'em and the rest they are the dogs.

I wouldn't mind a WR, we haven't had an elite player at that position since that fat fuck from Jersey decided that it was better to lose talent than face.

I don't have a feeling but it wouldn't surprise me. Brady will want a few good receivers, but there are too many defensive needs if we want to win now.
