For what it's worth, since some of you had to read pages and pages of Collin and I arguing over LB v/s S, in reference to Davis, and that I'd argued that he could and probably should be tried at SLB, that I'd still rather have him at SS if possible.

maybe Branch is first string because he knows the system better than Bashir, McCree, and Davis.

I like it, for now. People criticize Minter for not making his usual 3-4 INT and 2 TDs, but he had more PDs last year than ever before. He's physically more suited to match up against the WR and away from the TE, and since we're basically playing zone out there at FS it doesn't matter (which is why it's stupid to correct John Fox on whether his safeties are interchangeable, as Collin did, and since I've been railing on the poor bastard for being wrong, I'll throw one more in) that he's not a man-type matchup on the WR.

Plus, I think that Davis can beat out Branch over time, just as Minter worked his way into the lineup mid-rookie year.

It's a bit of a shame that McCree won't get much of a shot at first, nor Bashir I guess (I'm partial to McCree, so it's not a big deal that Idrees isn't going to be in the initial plans), but they're damn decent depth to have. Whether they'd have been brought on knowing Davis was going to be the pick? Harder to say.

Whether the team wants Minter to play FS that much? I'd hope so, in that it seems best for the team personnel as it stands (and wouldn't force Minter to move over for Davis later, or to move back and forth between FS and SS so Davis could play SS on 1st/2nd, and Joker on 3rd).

I really see us playing a lot of defenses that use three corners. That would minimize the time that Minter has to cover a WR. In passing downs maybe we slide Davis to linebacker and bring in Manning Jr. I think we have some flexibility with this arrangement and should improve our run defense since Minter and Davis should both be good in run support.

I was hopefully Mcree or Bashir one would stick at free safety for us since they seem to be more natural at the position but there is probably a reason both of them were available cheaply.....

That picture looks like it's T Davis aganst the LBs.

Okay kid, If you can throw us down, all of us, you can be a LB.

My neighborhood kids and I did that to a new Greek kid once. While we were playing in a vacant lot, this kid came up to us and asked us how the game was played. He could barely speak English and knew nothing about FB. So about 8 of us kicked off to his team which consisted of only him. He ran like hell but we nearly killed him. But much to our surprise he liked it. This Greek boy went on and was offered a big college scholarship in the ACC after high school. But as a kid he quickly became one of the first ones chosen in pickup games.

Fox clarified that interchangabliity in the last press conference. He said the assignments switch if one guy goes in motion. I know that typically, the SLB lines up on the TE side, and the WLB away. That's where the TE first lines up. If he goes in motion, the LBs don't switch sides. (I have no idea what happens if there are 2 TEs, or similar.) My guess is the Ss are like that too. So they're not really interchangable. But both guys end up playing some of both during a game. Fox said "they have to know both." That doesn't mean they're equally well suited for both. But they do have to be at least competant for both, I guess.

They sure let Grant man up on a receiver a lot more than they do any of our current safeties. If they were interchangable that would not be happening.

If Thomas Davis can cover a tight end then he will be fine where ever we put him. We do not have anyone else who can do that right now.
