After a 5 and 11 start, I need to turn it around. Looks like a lot of even games.

    Chicago at Atlanta, 1:00 pm

Atlanta: Home opener. Vick was impressive in his debut, and despite Buchanon's loss, they still have Ambrose, and Brooking may be a better MLB than Urlatcher.

    Cincinnati at Cleveland

Cleveland: Looks to get well after blowing a win in game one by beating up on the Bungles.

    Detroit at Carolina

Carolina: Detriot's front 4 is tougher than the Ravens, but their back 7 is worse, as is their offensive line.

    Green Bay at New Orleans

Green Bay: This may be their year.

    Jacksonville at Kansas City

Kansas City: It's going to be a long year in south georgia.

    Miami at Indianapolis

Indy: Upset pick. Old rivals usually play each other close, but Dungy magic strikes.

    New England at N.Y. Jets

New England: For the Jets to win, they might need 3 kick return TDs.

    Tampa Bay at Baltimore

Tampa: They have little reason to lose this game. Chucky will have some asses in gear this week.

    Tennessee at Dallas

Titans: McNown and George are back. That, and Q. Carter is apparently still the QB in Dallas.

    Arizona at Seattle

Seattle: Alexander steps up after an off game at Oakland. No one on zona's squad resembles Sam Adams.

    N.Y. Giants at St. Louis

Giants: Upset pick. Things are looking bad, as Strahan takes down Warner 3 times.

    Buffalo at Minnesota

Buffalo: Another big day for Travis Henry, Peerless Price, Eric Moulds, and Drew Bledsoe. Now if special teams will not give up 14 points.....

    Denver at San Francisco

Denver: Really tough call. Equally matched up teams. I'm just going with a gut feeling. Denver linebackers are fast, and they've got the secondary.

    Houston at San Diego

San Diego: After a so-so preseason, the Chargers ran right over the Bungles. LT gets another 100 yard game.

    Oakland at Pittsburgh

Oaktown: Krydell better pack a hanky.

    Philadelphia at Washington

Philly: They've owned the Skins in recent years. Can the Stevil one change that? Survey says.....no.

    Chicago at Atlanta

I'll go with Chicago in a close one. I don't think the Dirty Birds have what it takes to stop the A-train and company.

    Cincinnati at Cleveland

Cleveland in a rout, whether Couch starts or not.

    Detroit at Carolina

Detroit can't handle the heat, and the Panthers did two-a-days for a month in 110+. Like last week, this one goes to Carolina in the fourth quarter. Moose, say "hi" to ED on your way to the end zone.

    Green Bay at New Orleans

Haslett will be studying a lot of tape this week on Atlanta's offensive effort against the Pack, who has never been a good turf team. Saints ride the confidence building victory from last week and win in a close one.

    Jacksonville at Kansas City

No way JAX wins at Arrowhead. No way, no how.

    Miami at Indianapolis

Miami with another big rushing day. Dungy's D is better in Indy, but he's still got some work to do.

    New England at N.Y. Jets

I'll take the Pates in this one, betting they're not overconfident after that MNF debacle. The Jets play them tough, but not quite tough enough.

    Tampa Bay at Baltimore

I'll take the Bucs in this one, too, but the Ravens will play them a lot tougher than a lot of people think. This one comes down to the Johnson & Johnson connection.

    Tennessee at Dallas

Tennessee wins in a rout. With the Titans' pass rush clicking, Carter may not even finish the game. Campo's hot seat warms up a little more...

    Arizona at Seattle

If Hasselbeck starts, it'll be Alexander up the middle, Alexander to the right, Alexander up the middle. And the 'Hawks D better come to play. Seattle in a squeaker. If Dilfer starts, Holmgren's offense can run on all 8 cylinders, and Seattle wins by 10+.

    N.Y. Giants at St. Louis

With Tiki banged up, and Collins looking very average, I'll take the Rams at home.

    Buffalo at Minnesota

I'm not sure about this one. I think it'll come down to the Bills' secondary against Culpepper and Moss. But I'll take the Bills in the dome.

    Denver at San Francisco

This one will be decided by whether or not Garcia can start clicking with TO again. 6 catches for 40 yards ain't gonna cut it this week. And if Beuerlein comes off the bench, it could get even scarier for the 49er D. Still, SF is so good on both sides of the ball. I'll take the Niners in their home opener.

    Houston at San Diego

I'll take the Chargers. They absolutely squashed Cincy on the road last week. Houston will play them tough, but SD's secondary is better than Dallas.

    Oakland at Pittsburgh

Man, I'd hate to have been anywhere near the Steelers' practice field this week. Cowher looked like homicidal on Monday night. Maddox or Batch will take the field before this one's done, and Oakland wins by at least 14.

    Philadelphia at Washington

Philly gets a division win on the road, and Coach Visor gets his first loss.

Detroit has an indoor state of the art practice facility. Morningwood turned up the heat to 95 and added humidity. It doesn't matter, game time temp will be in the low 80's and it may even be raining.

Dang, Snail, you enjoying popping my balloons or what? ;) You're actually going to make me do my homework before spouting off, aren't you? :D

Allow me to expand on my statement a little. It shouldn't matter what the gametime weather will be like. Obviously, a hot day would work in our favor. But the overall conditioning of the team is what's in question, and the Panthers should have a significant edge on the Lions because of what they had to go through in training camp. (of course, because I don't know where Detroit had camp, now you'll tell me the Lions were in friggin' Death Valley, CA, making me look like an even bigger idiot.) And I don't think you can close that big of a conditioning gap in less than a week, no matter how high you turn up the thermostadt.

    LIONS CRYING LIKE CUBS?

Our sources in Miami tell us that during the game this past Sunday in which the 'Fins crushed the Motown Boys 49-21 (which would have probably been more competitive if the Red Wings would have played instead), the Miami players were thoroughly unimpressed by the lack of conditioning of the Lion players . . . uh . . . guys. With the heat index near 100 degrees at game time, the Dolphins realized right away that their having training camp in the World's Largest Sauna also known as South Florida gave (and will continue to give) them a huge conditioning advantage over any team that visits Pro Player stadium in the early going this year. Per one Dolphin player, as soon as he saw that the Lions were in a hurry-up offense to start the game, he and his teammates knew that it wouldn't be long before "they would be Three Little Pigging it" (his words, not ours - translation: huffing and puffing like the wolf in the child's tale . . . get it?) since some members of the Detroit NFL-like team looked "like they were going to lose their breakfast during warmups."

  9. the purpose of the hurry up was to wear down the phins d line. However, the game got out of hand so it didn't really matter in the 4th quarter....mostly due to turnovers.

their conditioning is fine...the mental mistakes and turnovers killed them.
