    This Moment Version 2.0

Back from the dead! Better than ever??

    Let's see...

First I wanna reply to Magnus:

I still need to find this and give it a listen. I was gonna say that while I love "The Greatest", tell me that that the warm synth hook doesn't loop you straight into "Moon River". It's nearly identical. Chan's sultry voice though is awesome. I'm falling in love with her/it.

    Now playing on my S50:

Beulah - "A Good Man Is Easy to Kill"

The hyperactive hook is cheesy, and almost put me off, but the rest of the song is pretty solid. Nice mellow vibe (notice a theme with me lately?). I'd give this a solid 3 outta 4. Check it out.

Broken Social Scene - "7/4 (Shoreline)"

Holy shit. Song of the year so far. Exact same reaction I had to "New Slang" by The Shins. First listen or two was "hmm pretty cool". By listen #3, this song owned me. Wish I'd heard it just a couple of days earlier, 'cause I just missed them playing it on Conan on 1/31. Dammit. I'm now in search of video of the performance. If the rest of the album is this good, I can't wait to get hold of it.

The Decemberists - "16 Military Wives"

Just because I brought them up in another thread. Theatrical pop song witha good rock beat. Lead singer's voice is an acquired taste, but they're catchy.

And honorable mention, just for Fred, Muff, Builder, etc:

Her Space Holiday - "A Match Made in Texas"

Trippy little mellow electronica song about gender/homosexual bias & american values. Think the song title is a dig at the establishment (aka Dubya). I'm just listening cause it's kinda catchy.

At the suggestion of some of my internet friends I am currently listening to Alice In Chains MTV Unplugged CD. Somehow I just never got into Alice In Chains, but this disk is pretty good content wise and excellent quality wise.

I'll merge this back in, in a bit.

I might be able to YSI that out to you. Saw since our last talk about Cat Power that she's featured in the new Rolling Stone (I'm about to let my subscription lapse).

Hmm. Have to check that out then. I think I've heard of the Decemberists, too.

It's groovier than new slang, in a SP "1979" way, but trippy/detatched. For some reason I think of Sonic Youth with a little less noise.

BTW, I figured out what that Decemberists song reminds me of - one of Ben Folds more elaborately arranged piano rockers, complete with horns, etc. Something like the middle portion of "Army", but the vocal is so different that you may not hear it. At the same time, I can imagine Ben singing this song.
