    Did the Byrds cover this? The version I remember was by the Doobie Brothers.

    Cath Ddu, the gospel group the Art Reynolds Singers first recorded the song and it was then coverd by the Byrds in 1969 on their album Ballad of Easy Rider. It has been coverd by several groups since.
