I think Varitek stays. If he leaves he will end up signing for less than the Sox current offer.

the no trade clause he's seeking is the biggest obstacle. If the Sox give him that, no-trade clauses kick in for a few others, Nixon included.

:nono: on Leiter and Wright. I'm hoping they get Steve Kline from the Cards.

Yep. And the length. The Sox now have a rule of no contracts more than 4 years. And Varitek wants 5.

You think the Twins would trade Johan Santana? Maybe for Pokey? That's a fair trade right?

funny. for whatever reason, Al leiter wasn't neartly as effective when he was pitching in the AL and he's old as dirt. Jarret Wright had a good contract year but has for the most part has been mediocre. The same could be said of Pavano but I tend to think he's the real deal, expecially given the way he pitched in the 03 playoffs. Radke would be a good consolation prize for not getting Pavano, but I read where he's thinking about re-upping with the Twinkies for less than market value.

I'm hoping Varitek gives in and takes the 4-year deal. I shudder to think of Damian Miller behind the plate the next year or two while Shoppach gets ready. Boras ain't gonna make it easy. the prick.

I'd love it if the Hudson deal could get made. Zito would be pretty interesting too.

I don't get why they would want Glaus though.
