"I'm 22, which clearly is not an old shit. I went to see George Jones Friday night and it was a dern' tootin' good show. In fact, most of my music is old country from Hank Williams to Charly Freakin' Pride. I'm not an old shit, but damn if I don't listen to old shit music."

Hell yeah. There's been good shit going on for centuries. Some people think if it ain't being make "right now" and by their peers
that it's insignificant and not worth listening to.

Hank Williams could sing the most mournful sounding stuff.

Yes Jazz, Hank Williams could belt a mournful melody. But check out Tom T. Hall. In my opinion, country's greatest balladeer.

    "....basic tension and release..."

    Excellent, Piper.
That, IMHO, is the very foundation of jazz, in at least a coupla ways. The best way to describe the jazz feeling is that it is a three against two feeling, which is a motion/swing thing. This is in the foundation[which is a time thing that I can't put into words]and the way eighth notes are interpreted/played. Then there is what you're probably talking about: building, building, climax.

Jazz is quite scientific, mathematical and "mystical."
[It's also nice to listen too, BTW.]

"....But check out Tom T. Hall. In my opinion, country's greatest balladeer."

I know the name, and have heard him mentioned enough so that
he must be a "credible" singer.

Ya'll are probably gonna laugh; but, I think Randy Travis has a good voice, and I like the way he uses it.[ I don't pay that much attention to words. I like the tones that singers use to carry the words.]

Willie Nelson is my favorite country singer, by far.

The tension and release concepts of jazz is basically why I'm a Phish phan. They do it better than any other rock act. You can directly relate modal tension between "Stash" and "Run Like an Anelope" and the jazz Quientet's stuff in say "In a Silent Way."

    lie, lie, loco,
Marco Esquandolas, bid to you have any spike, mon?

    Piper,
You talking about Miles' group? If so, I agree.
The group is playing and playing and playing and then, it's as if Tony Williams says: enough of this shit, fuck it! and lays/"stomps" it down!
    Love it! [IMG]

Hey, guys.. I was just talking about a cutie-pie 18 year old standing me up straight about a bit of old knock-out guitar rock. I didn't really mean "that old shit" except just to look like a good Dad for a minute. Hell, she read this thread and says, " You're not talking about "Doctor Robert" are you, Dad!!! Give me a break, here!
