Washington's team made what I think was an underrated but critical game management error against the Saints. It's 3rd and 1, just north of the two minute warning. A first down effectively wins the game. Kirk Cousins breaks the huddle, walks to the line of scrimmage - but then Jay Gruden takes a timeout from the sidelines. This is not clock management related since the clock was stopped (although that timeout could have saved them from the 10 second runoff at the end of regulation) but what this did allow was more time for the Saints to get recharged. The Washington team had just run for gains of five and four yards. New Orleans was clearly out of gas. Why in the fuck would you stop the game at this point? Big mistake, and the Saints were able to regroup and stuff Perine.

A lot of Washington football fans are pissed over what was perceived as "prevent" defense at the end of the game, but I would argue that this was a bigger blunder.

 

4 and 1 against the Giants. Skins put the punt team on the field. Gruden apparently changes his mind, calls TO and sends in the offense. Delay of game penalty. Inexcusable.
