The Washington NFL Franchise

This ground has been run over and over. Is it possible you believe it seems a little racist because that's what you've been told it must be ad nauseam?

When you refer to the redskins as the washington team (other than maybe you don't like the team, which I don't), do you mean disrespect towards injuns?

The whole thing is nothing more than politics being thrown up in the sports arena. Pretty soon pita will be biotching about cadged animals on the sides of helmets.

I do agree that the name incorporating the color of one's skin could be 'racist' if it were derogatory, but the logo? Not so much. Nobody really thinks it is a derogatory.

Now saying the 'skins suck! is derogatory, but that's towards the shitty team, not the mascot. At least to most reasonable people. And every injun I know.

 

No one uses the term "redskin" to refer to actual people because we all realize that the word is a slur. And as for history, the original owner of the team, George Marshall, was a notorious racist who hired William Dietz as the team's first head coach. Dietz had been coaching high school football at the time, and was chosen by Marshall because Dietz was a white man who constantly pretended to be an Indian. Marshall even had Dietz wear a headdress on the sideline during games. The head coach of an NFL team was wearing a fucking headdress. I'm far from politically correct and I'm perfectly fine with the Indians, the Braves, and the Chiefs. Redskins is a racial slur with a bad history.

 

We know. And that's a fair opinion collin.

It just doesn't offend me. I get called a redskin and injun, doesn't bother me. It's mostly in jest.

Like blacks constantly use the n word referring to each other like that's acceptable. Only to each other though.

The logo itself just isn't a racist slur imo.

Let's just move on here, I apologize for even posting about it. We've been down this road before, many time already, and we all have our opinions.

The graphic comes off as strong and proud, but the name redskins has plenty of room to change.
Seems like they could pick out a domiant tribe from that area and give that a try.
I don`t hear any complaints about Florida State.

I rewatched most of the Skins-Raiders game last night. Skins defensive and offensive fronts dominated the game.
