I didn't really like "The Village"

What a disappointment, especially when compared to the other two mentioned above. Certainly not worth my $7.50.

    We thought it sucked.

Why do they speak in old english?..."Post haste"...

Ron Howard's daughter was excellent, as well all others but the Utopia idea didn't fly. Pass.

SPOILER ALERT -- QUIT READING NOW!

the simple answer is so that the viewing audience would be fooled into thinking it's a particular year. for example, the gravestone at the beginning suggests is 1897. the weird thing, tho, is why? why 1897? why not 2004? it's just a number. it could have been 75 for all the difference it would make to the occupants of the town who were either aware of the real date or had no concept of what the date actually meant in context of the progress of civilization. so the number was purely for us.

same with the phoney dialect. to us it sounds like how somebody would speak in that time frame (before the invention of contracts, for example). but again, the people in on it knew it was a ruse and the people not in on it would have no idea that there was any other way to speak. so it must have been for us.

now i guess you could say that it helped them keep in character, which is reasonable i suppose. but then, they're not all historians or actors or anything.

and when hurt's character mentions his father was killed with a gun... did they really teach the kids what guns were? it's very likely they didn't have any guns, so why not strike that word from the lexicon like they did with "yellow" and "red"?

I'm glad I saw it even though I figured it out when Lucious wanted to go meet those we do not speak of. He's always brilliant with the use of colors. Lots of hand held camera. A bit different look from his other films. Basically a bunch of hippies in the woods getting high and listening to Phish.

What do you mean you figured it out? I find it hard to believe that you sat there and thought, "Hmmm, I bet they are in a National Preserve"
