Results are overwhelmingly positive on the throw-away amber I made amongst people at work.

Entered a trio of beers in just to get feedback to BJCP judging - anybody ever place beers to contest?

Mine made 30.5 (scottish export/80), 30.5 (pumpkin ale), and 31 (amber ale). The amber was just a liquid malt I added some other light things to, but the judges felt as I did that it simply lacked enough hop and body (liquid kit contained no malt and only mild finishing hops). The pumpkin was older - Nov. bottling. The spices had degraded a little bit and the pumpkin flavor was waning, and it had originally come out more spiced than pumpkin (more like Cottonwood than more commercial examples). All three placed in "very good" category, i.e., very good drinkable beer but not a classic example of the style and/or not a flawless beer. So I'm relatively pleased.

My good friend Jake placed a wit at 33 for 3rd place Belgian and a chocolate vanilla russian imperial stout at 29.

I made a broccoli porter spiked with LSD that scored a 9.9 (on a 10 scale) at Eddie's July 4 dockside beer blast. I knew I'd clinched the unofficial title of "Best in Show" when I saw one of the judges reciting Hamlet to a dead, bloated muskellunge that had washed ashore.

    Store Up-Date

As many of you already know by stopping by to see us, we are being forced to vacate our retail location of 22 years. The NEW owners of the property will be tearing down the building we are in to make way for condos.

We have not been able to find an adequate location in Charlotte for our needs at a price that we can afford; therefore, we will be moving the warehouse/mail order operation into the Sprectrum Dye Plant on the Catawba River in Belmont.

    1500 River Dr
    Belmont, NC 28012

We are looking for a location for our retail in the University / Huntersville area and hope to decide on a location within the next 2 weeks - if all goes well.

We will start moving on Thursday, September 13th with Friday, September 14th being our last full day in our present location. Any large equipment will be on sale through the remainder of our stay and everything will be on sale starting Thursday, the 13th.

It has been a glorious run for 22 years in this building. I hate to think about our stay here ending. But changes can be good if we allow them to challenge us.

We will try to find ways to serve you and make this transition as easy as possible. You will always be able to stop by the new warehouse and browse our wares, order by phone or over the internet for UPS or FEDEX delivery with FREE SHIPPING to ALL Charlotte and surrounding zip codes on orders over $25 starting on September 16th.
