McKeesport (Pa.) head coach Jim Ward confirmed the development on Tuesday.

“[Releasing Simmons] is something that North Carolina would have to do,” Ward said. “We’ve just been in discussions with them. I really don’t want to say anything further at this point.”
Simmons, a 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive tackle, signed with UNC on National Signing Day, without officially visiting the school. He did, though, visit UNC last summer.
“At this time I have no further comment … until things play themselves out,” Ward said, when pressed for additional details. A five-star defensive tackle, Simm

shouldn't you be more concerned about getting someone to come coach that pitiful basketball program?

    The time will come.

Anyway, why are recruits jumping off the Tar Heels' ship?

well if that report is true that is one, but really who knows what an 18 yr old is thinking? he could be concerned about playing time, maybe he liked Baker who left for the Cowboys or maybe someone told him any number of things?

It's common knowledge that several recruits have cooled off since all the scandals broke out. He's just the first that had a LOI. There's another guy that's warming up to a NC State offer recently. I heard that at his official visit to Carolina some UNC fans treated him and his family like shit at the UNC-State game. Apparently, they sat in the wrong seats and when the owners of the seats showed up they treated them like shit. Nice.

I am not one who takes a lot of stock in recruiting class ranking but for anyone who does UNC's class was usually ranked in the top 20 well after any scandals.

I might add when it comes to recruiting rumors one can only place so much stock in those.

What on earth are you talking about? First of all, UNC has not yet been found guilty of anything in this case. Second of all, would you care to inform me of the other recruiting violations the school has had over the past 30 years?
