We'll have to agree to disagree on the way this is handled.

Looking at the article in the Observer today it looks like the Heels dominated in state recruiting this year. Didn't seem to lose as many to out of state schools overall either.

I also doubt that there are 16 players doing that combination of things, but I can certainly see a fair number transferring or dropping football because of the quality of recent classes and the limiting effects it has on playing times. You simply don't know how many players are leaving or dropping football. I think it's pathetic that you take an extremely limited amount of information and try to jump to an extreme conclusion. Personally, I will wait until all the information is on the table to start criticizing.

    North Carolina Top 25
The Observer's Stan Olson ranks the state's top high school football recruits
    Posted: Sunday, Jan. 04, 2009

    THE TOP FIVE

RANK, NAME, HIGH SCHOOL, POSITION, HEIGHT, WEIGHT, COLLEGE, COMMENT

    1. Donte Moss, Jacksonville Northside, DE, 6-4, 235, North Carolina. Had 25 sacks as senior. Remarkable 4.6 speed for his size and should add muscle in college. Played LB in Shrine Bowl but will almost certainly be a DE in Chapel Hill. Played in Saturday's Army All-American game in San Antonio.

    2. Xavier Nixon, Fayetteville Britt, OL, 6-6, 263, Florida, Miami, LSU. Best OL in the state, he's expected to be a tackle in college. Was expected to announce choice during Saturday's Army All-American all-star game. Strong and aggressive. Has quick first step that helped earn spot on AP all-state team.

    3. Jheranie Boyd, Gastonia Ashbrook, WR, 6-2, 184, North Carolina. He can fly (4.4 speed) and has a 40-inch vertical leap. The Shrine Bowl pick had 56 catches for 914 yards and eight TDs this season. Uses speed to go deep and can get behind defenders, and is also a good blocker.

    4. Jared McAdoo, Chapel Hill, DT, 6-3, 285, North Carolina. Led his team with nine tackles in Shrine Bowl, including a sack. Played mostly defensive end in high school but will be a tackle in college. Has surprising quickness and should surpass 300 pounds with the Tar Heels.

    5. Hawatha Bell, Butler, LB , 6-1, 225 , North Carolina. All-State. All-Observer and Shrine Bowlpick had 86 tackles as senior , caused five fumbles and blocked a punt. Had sack fumble recovery in Shrine Bowl. Combines the toughness of an inside LB with 4.5 speed.

THE NEXT TWENTY (in alphabetical order)

RANK, NAME, HIGH SCHOOL, POSITION, HEIGHT, WEIGHT, COLLEGE, COMMENT

    6. Travis Bond, Windsor Bertie, OL, 6-7, 330, NC, Mich, ECU, NCSU. Helped lead team to 10-4 record as a junior.

    7. David Collins, East Forsyth, OL, 6-7, 290, North Carolina. AP all-state selection is big and can get bigger. OT in college.

    8. Ray-Ray Davis, Monroe Sun Valley, WR, 5-11, 185, North Carolina. Knee injury likely prevented him from repeating as all-state selection.

    9. Justin Dixon, Smithfield Selma, LB, 6-0, 228, North Carolina. Dixon (4.5 speed) has impressive strength that could place him at MLB.

    10. Rickey Dowdy, High Point Central, LB, 6-2, 225, N.C. State. Has good 4.6 speed for his size, bench-presses over 350 pounds.

    11. Zach Greene, Raleigh Leesville Rd. CB, 5-10, 170, Duke. Speedy corner whose dad, Dwayne Greene, quarterbacked N.C. State.

    12. Ty Howle, Bunn, OL, 6-2, 290, Penn State. Howle is a smart player and Shrine pick. All-state as a junior.

    THE TOP 5

RANK, NAME, HIGH SCHOOL, POSITION, HEIGHT, WEIGHT, COLLEGE. COMMENT.

    1. DeVonte Holloman, Rock Hill S. Pointe, DB, 6-3, 210, South Carolina. Remarkable athlete. Led 4A Division II champs with five TDs on punt returns, and had 101 tackles and two interceptions. Played in the North-South all-star game in Myrtle Beach. Associated Press all-state.

    2. Sam Montgomery, Greenwood, DE/LB, 6-4, 235, Clemson, LSU, Mich, NC, Okla. St., South Carolina, Southern Cal. A Shrine Bowl selection named to the AP all-state team at linebacker. As a senior, had 78 solo tackles. Has 4.65-second 40-yard speed.

    3. Stephon Gilmore, Rock Hill S. Pointe, ATH, 6-1, 180, South Carolina. Could play offense or defense. Prep QB ran for 1,262 yards and 23 TDs and passed for 1,771 and 14, earning selection as the state's “Mr. Football.” Shrine Bowl offensive MVP. The all-state pick at QB has 4.5-second speed.

    4. Malliciah Goodman, W. Florence High, DE, 6-4, 255, Clemson. Named to the Shrine Bowl and all-state team, Goodman is the perfect size and speed (4.55) combo. He had 15 sacks as a senior. Also played in Saturday's U.S. Army All-American game.

    5. Denzelle Good, Gaffney, OG, 6-6, 325, N.C. State. Early Wolfpack commitment opened many eyes with his strong work in Shrine Bowl practices, and played considerable time at left tackle in the game, although he could be a guard in Raleigh. The all-state selection has good technique and potential but needs some polish.

It was almost a given he would declare and good for him. His stock has to be as high as it can go after the bowl game against WVA. He is not a blazer speed wise but he gets open and has great hands. He reminds me a bit of Musin Muhammad, hope he has that kind of career.

Who cares where their parents went, it is the choice of the player to decide where he wants to go. NC State had a great OL class last year and we redshirted 3 of them and they are expected to start next year. Collins looked at the UNC OL and he could see that a Mack truck could be driven through it so he figured he could get a lot of time there. Davis is putting a lot of trust into this freshman class and if they don't turn out like the stars say they will, he will go on and sign 40 players next year. Davis is a great recruiter, but his coaching is still suspect and without Nicks next year, coud be a long year for Davis.
