I used to read Steven King all the time til I figured out he never knew how to finish a story. His endings suck, he gets bored with it.

I find it hard to comprehend how you think King is boring and yet you'll read any Clive Cussler book lying around. Cussler is long past his prime.

I would tend to agree that Stephen King does (in some of his books) take a long time developing characters and using metaphors. For those readers who really appreciate the imagery side of things those books are great. I do agree though, some of his books will put you to sleep before you ever get into them. The Tommyknockers (which is a good book) was too long and was difficult to finish.

Kings endings can sometimes be cheezy. I agree there too. Desperation is a cool book but the ending just sucks.

However, some of Kings stuff is superb and can't be dismissed.

Try Straub's book, "Floating Dragon". It is one of the best books I read aand is very scarie.

Another very good book is "Swan Song". I can't remember the author.

'Koko' and 'Mystery' are also great Straub books.

    Read "Watchers" by Dean Koontz.

Not the scariest I've ever read, but definitely a great read, other good ones by Koontz are "Lightning", "Shattered", and "The Face of Fear"

Scariest book to me is still The Exorcist by Blatty. Watching the movie now just seems dumb, but the book will definitely scare you.

'Watchers' is one of the few Koontz I've read, and while I appreciate his originality, he's more of a 'thriller' read to me. I never really got skeered like I have with King.

I recommend "Blood of Others" by Rick Mofina it's pretty scary.
