I'd like to see the Phillies stay on the road a bit longer. Swept the Rockies in Denver, take 3 of 4 in San Francisco, and then take the 1st 2 in LA with Vance Worley going tonight. Oh well home for the weekend against the Nationals and former Phillie Jayson Werth and his whopping .225 average

1. We're 122 games into the season, and the Phillies' history train keeps on chugging. They've still had only five instances all season in which they've lost more than ONE game in a row. They would have to keep this up for 40 more games to tie the record for fewest losing streaks in a season of 150 games or more. That's also five, by Three Finger Brown's 1906 Cubs, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. But the Phillies have a more realistic shot at the live ball era record, which is seven, by Lefty Grove's 1929 A's.

2. What has made those records reachable is that the Phillies have lost two games in a row exactly ONCE since June 4. That was 64 games ago. Elias reports that no team has had a longer stretch than that since the 2005 Cardinals had one losing streak (of three games), between May 8 and June 23, on their way to 100 wins. If the Phillies' streak is still alive by next week, next up would be the 1995 Indians, who had only one losing streak (of four games) between April 30 and July 25, believe it or not. And who was the hitting coach for those 1995 Indians? Yep, Phillies manager Charlie Manuel.

Lidge would be lucky if he makes the post season roster after his performance this past weekend. I agree with PP, can't wait for him to be gone. D. Brown is hitting a hefty .179 since he has gone down to the minors. Can you say TRADE BAIT! The way Mayberry has been playing lately, maybe he could be a possibility in left field next season. Can't see the Phillies signing Ibanez again unless for a major reduced salary. Can't the Braves ever lose??????

 

There is very little chance of the Bravos catching the Phils. Even the tv guys only mention the wildcard race.

 

It's not likely at 6.5 games but they still play 6 games head to head. Don't think like the dolts on tv, for the most part they try to make sensational statements. It sounds better and more dramatic to say "This race is over" than to say "It's not over yet"

 

Phils just put Hamels on the DL with an inflamed pitching shoulder. Good thing they are up so the can give him all the rest he needs. The playoffs are all about a 3 maybe 4 man rotation and they need Halladay, Lee and Hamels to be right

 

I am old enough to have lived through the 1964 Phillies season. Look it up, 6 1/2 game lead with 12 to play. They lose ten in a row and the Cardinals win the Pennant. A collapse that is only surpassed by the Mets collapse a few years ago.
