For what its worth (not a dam thing really) my sources from the area say that you are right. Beltran seems to be the guy they are keying on right now. I did read where Hunter Pence might be available for the right price. For me, that would be the guy I would go after. The Astros what Worley! As good as Worley has been, that would something that would need to be looked at.

As far as Beltran is concerned I'm just afraid that the Phillies would have to give up too much to basically rent him for two months.

    Should be interesting!

I looked up Cabrerra and he is only signed for this year but still would be a lot cheaper. The Phillies farm system still has players that will be good in a few years and I'd like to see them hold on to them to take over when Lee and Halladay leave/retire. Pense is the only player I'd open the farm for since he is a lot younger and I believe signed for a few more years

I'd rather stand pat than give up the farm on a 2 month rental. The Phils are in first place and it's up to the rest of the league to mortgage the future to get a player to try to make a move. Get Melkey for a heck of a lot cheaper and let someone else overpay to get Beltran.

    From Insider:
As Monday comes to a close, Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets that his phone calls resulted in the belief that the Rangers are the most aggressive pursuers of Beltran, followed by the Braves, Red Sox, Giants. The Phillies are fading, Sherman adds.

Good. Now go get BJ Upton

It is getting out of hand. Maybe they can hold on for the wildcard?
