I saw Les Claypool, Buckethead, Bernie Worrell play in New Orleans Sat. night. Some of the most intense music I have ever heard.

    this is a no brainer

    Geddy Lee - Bass/vocals
    Alex Lifeson - Guitar
    Neal Peart - Percussion

Then Again, Mickey, Bill, Phil, Bobby, Brent and Jerry were pretty fucking close to perfect too.

any combination of the NIN guys, Tool guys, and the APC guys...most of Trent's live band is pretty interchangeable with anything, hell the guitarist from the last NIN tour was actually under contract with Guns and Roses but Axl didn't have his head out of his ass during that year so he got to tour with Trent, haha. He did play with GNR on the short-lived tour from last year, I think they played some kind of MTV awards show or something, plus a regular tour but Axl got pissed or something and it didn't last long. What a jackass. As if anyone cares about GnR though, LOL.

It's hard to imagine the sheer genius of Maynard's lyrics coupled with Trent's ungodly talent for writing, composing, layering, mixing, producing, etc.

If you like Maynard, and you haven't checked out APC, you should. It showcases his vocal talents much better than any Tool album ever did. The guy who wrote all the music was actually a NIN guitar tech on the Downward Spiral tour, then a Tool tech on the Undertow and Aenima tour.

Going back to the live NIN band, the keyboardist is pretty popular in the movie soundtrack and remix department...

Another awesome composer would be Clint Mansell, he did all the composition and arrangements for the string quartet music on "Requiem for a Dream."

And for those of you that still love the 80s (me too), the perfect band to me would have to include Sammy Hagar, George Lynch, the bassist from Iron Maiden, and Tommy Lee.

Damn, this is the longest post I've had in a long time, I need to gear up for football season. :D

    Thanks for the music forum!

edit: Piper, speaking of Adrian Belew, he's done some work with NIN too, I'll have to check what it was on, seems like it was a remix.

edit 2: just checked, he's credited with the following on NIN - The Fragile (studio double CD set from 1999)

Just Like You Imagined - additional guitar: Adrian Belew
The Great Below - end melodic guitar: Adrian Belew
Where is Everybody - end melodic guitar: Adrian Belew

Damn choosing the guitarist alone are hard. So many great ones but different styles. I tend to lean more towards the rock and bluesmen myself. Clapton, SRV, Robert Cray, as well as Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Vai and some guy namd Hendrix :p. As far as bass players while he may not be the best Flea of the Chilli Peppers is one of my favs along with John Entwistle and John Paul Jones

No David Sanborn? Only probably the most influential sax player in the last 20+ years

Maceo and Lenny whip Sanborn. And David sounds like Lenny on tenor anyway. So why bother?

Flea and JPJ make for some interesting style choices, I'd love to see either in a creative setting different from what they had.

    flea & jpj

Check out Gov't Mule's Deep End Vols I & II if you want to hear Flea and jpj in an different musical setting. They, along with a smorgasbord of other fine bassists (Mike Watt, Les Claypool, Entwistle, Bootsy, Phil Lesh, etc, etc) are on the albums and each adds his own distintive style to this Allman Brothersish band.

If you dig that kind of thing.
