I've already planned to buy out a theatre myself so I don't have to worry about offending anyone else.

My wife and I managed to get away for a couple hours last night / this morning to see the movie. I was getting a little apprehensive about seeing this movie after hearing sooo much about it I was worried I would leave disappointed so I tried to curb my expectations.>>

    >>

My wife and I both cried, the theater was only 60% at best, but it was a late showing on a Sunday night, so I wasn’t completely surprised. I found the story to be the most accurate of any biblical movie I have ever seen. I am proud for what Gibson was able to do with his own money and will own the DVD the day it comes out. Finally someone took the time and invested the money to tell the story the way it was with as much detail as scholars could muster. Any bible story can be interpreted in a number of ways, but I was particularly pleased with this movie. >>

    >>

Aside from how wonderfully accurate I felt the movie was, I was troubled with the carrying of the cross. Not in a distracted sense... it just seemed to take a long time. Again, I believe this to be part of the accuracy of the story, so it isn’t something I would change. >>

    >>

The scourging scene is brutal in every way, but once again I wouldn’t have changed anything as this in my opinion is part of the power and impact of this movie.>>

    >>

To me this movie serves a lot of purposes. In one sense it can be used as a witnessing tool for those who are unsaved or unaware of the price that was paid. It is also a offering to from Gibson to God, a sacrifice if you will. This movie IMO also serves as a wakeup call to those believers who maybe have lost sight of the pain that Jesus suffered as well as a reminder of what purpose we have to the world as believers. >>

    >>

I applaud Mr. Gibson for this piece of truth told so boldly in this time of deniability. >>

    >>

As far as anti-semitic stuff, I agree I could see how SOME people could take what they want out of this movie and view it as a way to hate another group. However, in general it helped me appreciate the passion of the Jewish faith and their love for what they felt was the truth. The extra actors and actresses did a great job convincing me that they were truly involved be it for or against the crucifixion...very moving indeed.>>

    >>

Sorry for the long rambling post, I usually try to avoid these.>>

One aspect that I hadn’t heard about...that made sense to be in it was the scenes that had the devil or demonic person in it. Nothing I had heard about said anything about that role

I saw the movie Sunday afternoon. My thoughts:

I'm glad there was so much talk about the violence. I was able to prepare myself for it (mostly), and wasn't completely shocked by it. It sounds strange to say, but the preparation enabled me to appreciate it more, and be in even more awe of the one who took the beating.

I thought the crucifixion was bad, but the scourging was one of the most awful things I've ever seen done to a human body.

Jim Caviezel's performance was the most powerful I've ever seen, and by a good margin. I had no idea he was that good. I had no idea anyone could be that good.

I would most definitely not take any pre-teen to go see it, and I'd seriously think about whether or not to take anyone under 15. (I'm sorry, Riddel. I hope your kids weren't too upset by it.)

I think the non-religious will appreciate the story of Jesus the man. But I also think that to disregard the film's epilogue is to leave the theater feeling lower than low. The movie is that heavy.

I did not cry much during the movie, even though I tried. After the movie was over, I couldn't stop crying for about 45 minutes. I had so much going through my mind and heart, I didn't even want to talk for an hour.

The movie didn't teach me anything I didn't have at least a basic grasp of, but seeing it in that format made all the difference. I'm glad all the dialogue was in Aramaic and street Latin. That, combined with the big screen drew me in and made me feel like I was there -- as a spectator. For those who are waiting for the DVD, I'd give this warning: This film will lose much on the small screen.

I thought the Satan character was poorly cast and way overplayed. It ended up being a bit of distraction for me.

He had plenty of motivation. Think about what happens if he gets bad reviews from the guy he is playing :D

I think this movie hits a viewer as much as the viewer will allow himself to be hit. If a person's pretty closed off to the story, and especially to the central character, the potential effect is greatly diminished.

If I didn't believe, I would have had the same reaction.

Some guy claiming to be the son of god gets killed. The graphic nature of the movie was more than I wanted to see.

    Yes

But, if you don't know or don't believe, then it could be considered just another grusome movie. Point is you can't really force emotion on others. Either they believe or they don't. If they are not touched or moved, then there isn't much else you can do.
