thanks for the insight norm. i didnt really know a whole lot about plavich, but from what you say, it sounds like he could really be a scoring machine. while i am really excited about next year's team, there is one thing that worries me. in order to be a contender, you need a solid point guard. having plavich and brown on the court would definitely be nice to see, but im just afraid of the fact that baldwin is the only true pg on the team, and as you mentioned, he has some areas to improve upon. i have to disagree with you about benching basden. the guy got like 7 steals in one game last year, and he grabs rebounds left and right. yes last years team wasnt great, but the guy hustles his ass off and just seems to know where the ball is gonna be before it gets there. i think if he can slap up at least 8 or 9 ppg, he should stay in the starting lineup. but regardless of the starting lineup, the niners are gonna kick some ass next year, and i cant wait :D

Marcus Bennett averaged 7 assists (along with 20 pts & 8 boards) at Schoolcraft, which played a very good schedule, hardly ever lost, and finished in the top 6 in the nation. He is the wild card, and I believe he'll surpise a lot of Niner fans.

The beginning of the year starting lineup will be:

    C Iti
    PF Withers (possibly Spooner)
    SF Grier (possibly Pigford)
    SG Plavich
    PG Brown

the lineup will be very fluid with guys constantly coming in and out of the game and switching positions. Spooner will see half or more of his minutes at the 5. Pigford will play some 4. Brown will play some 2, and I imagine Bennett will see some time at both guard spots. It wouldnt suprise me to see him establish himself as the first PG option off the bench this year, and possibly start next year. Michigan's coach had said he'd be their starting PG if he'd stayed there.

If I was Lutz, I would not put Brown at point. He's has no PG abilities. I do truely mean that too. His game is from behind the arc and too 1-D. He's a excellent 3 point shooter but once you shut him down from behind the arc, he has no where to go. We need an inside out presence and we should start doing that next year with the likes of our new recruits in addition to Withers. That's what made the Cam/Jobey such a great inside/out threat.

    fodder for debate

will he match up well against Iti?

Seven-foot center Husak signs with Billikens
    dsjashofls
ST. LOUIS (AP) – Saint Louis signed 7-foot, 250-pound center Bryce Husak of Mount Vernon, Iowa, to a national letter of intent Tuesday.
Husak originally signed with Elon (N.C.) University in the early signing period but was released from that commitment after Mark Simons resigned last month as Elon’s men’s basketball coach.
Husak, a two-time all-Iowa and all-conference player, averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks as a senior at Mount Vernon High School, which finished 24-4 and fourth in Iowa’s state 3A tournament.
“We are excited that we were able to lure a player of Bryce’s size and ability,” Saint Louis coach Brad Soderberg said. “He will be a kid that we will love to work with and develop into the player we want him to be.”
Soderberg credited Husak with having great hands, coordination for his size and the ability to run the floor. Soderberg said he believes Husak can become a valuable post player in Conference USA.
Last week, the Billikens signed 6-9 forward Tom Frericks of Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla.., hoping he’ll also step in for two departed inside players, Kenny Brown and Chris Braun.
Frericks, of Bowling Green, Ky., has two years of eligibility remaining. He averaged 10.4 points and 7.8 rebounds last season, shooting 58 percent, and was named all-Panhandle Conference.

My bad I skimmed through the article and mis-read the part where he's going to St. Louis.

    Anyway,

we always had problems with St. Louis style of play. They play a slow...very slow half court offense. They take up about 25 secs of the clock before they start their plays. Very irritating to watch.
