I know you've been to Britain so you have the advantage, but 'scones' can't be known in America, surely? I thought they were more English than cricket(!).

I was at a tented 'free festival' last night and they were playing 'De-Loused In The Comatorium' between bands. It was so annoying when the tuning-up drowned out tha Volta! :D

I'm replying here for no reason other than I want to see this thread back at the top, so that some more people read it.

Holding back on the superlatives as much as I can, this CD is very special!

The Mars Volta played a few gigs in the UK recently - too far away and at the wrong time for me to attend - but the reviews were incredible. Kerrang! - one of the major rock magazines - gave them a maximum 'KKKKK' score. I find this surprising because, although I think that 'Comatorium' is one of the best albums I've heard in ages, I really didn't think they'd cut it live. Seems like they can.

I still haven't heard The Mars Volta CD, but I saw them live here in NY about 2 months ago opening up for the Chili Peppers and they really turned me off. Maybe it was just an off night for them. They were practically booed off the stage. I know New Yorkers can be tough, but I've seen hundreds of concerts and I haven't seen a crowd react like this since I saw Marillion open for Rush an awful long time ago. Everything I've read about The Mars Volta seemed positive, so I was shocked by their performance. Maybe I need to give them another shot and pick up the CD.
