Hard rock/punk/metal? No - far from it!

The main men are two members of At The Drive-In, who you may know (?), an aggressive, angry, hard rock band (from San Antonio, I think) who imploded a little while ago. Their 'Relationship Of Command' album is awesome. A classic!

From ATDI came Sparta and The Mars Volta. Sparta are sort of a mild-mannered Clark Kent take on ATDI - good, but without the energy. The Mars Volta are a different kettle of fish altogether (if you understand the English expression - though I think it's probably Scottish!). Anyway, ending the digression, The Mars Volta .....

I've played 'De-Loused In The Comatorium' quite a lot since I bought it - only a week ago - and I've come to the conclusion that this is a great album.

There's a lot of At The Drive-In in there, of course, but there are also touches of Zeppelin, Santana, early 'spacey' Pink Floyd, and lots of jazzy bits. There are even King Crimson sound-alikes!

I have the special edition with 11 tracks, but they merge so much and there are so many time changes, that it sounds more like 30 tracks.

This won't be everyone's cup of tea (English again?), but I'd love to hear the opinions of people on here. Jazzredcat and Magnus for instance, people who I wouldn't normally expect to listen to the music that I do.

Try stuff like 'Cicatriz esp' and 'Drunkship Of Lanterns' for starters.

Was that a rant? If so, rant over! :D

And meatpile couldn't hope to keep The Mars Volta between his legs, no matter how hard he tried! Come to think of it (talking of meat), there's a bit of Grateful Dead in there too! Just a bit. ;)

Don't blame me if you don't like it - it's really unusual. Download some stuff first.

I've changed my mind - don't download anything, just buy it! I'm listening to it on headphones as I type this and it's simply sublime. At times it will be much too heavy for you, other times it will be so lightweight that you'll reach for the volume dial. This is without a doubt the best CD I've heard in ages. Perhaps ever!

I apologise in advance to anyone who buys this CD and doesn't like it.

It's drug induced music. Just ask Jeremy Ward.

this is not emo...this is something else...

didnt someone say ATDI was emo?

well, this cd is growing on me, cath. oh yeah.

and i do love cicatriz esp.... can this track be any longer?
    :p

obtw, it is ok to make references like you do...

"a different kettle of fish altogether" i'd say is like 'a whole new ball of wax.'

"wont be everyone's cup of tea" is used here. but, i normally just listen to whatever melts my butter. (all we need now are a couple of scones, and we're in business!)
    :p
