Dook usually reloads, so there's no reason to panic yet (or not expect them to still be in the top 3-4 in the ACC), but things do seem different now with them. Even if they get a decent top recruit, the core of the team is still back next year (minus Demarcus Nelson, which may be an improvement based on how he played the last half of the season) and I just don't think they're capable of much more than what they showed this year.

I say don't sleep on dook ever. Until the rat moves on they've still got potential. Are they what they used to be? No, but they ARE still dangerous. The right big man gets inserted in that offense for a one or two year run, they're in title contention.

Duke has no real big man in the middle-enough said. I like Duke but they didn't have it this year. They were lucky to get as far as they did.

Seriously. Is there a firecoachK website yet? Duke is Duke and will reload. The Heels did it after their disatrous season a couple of years ago. It's nice to have a school that recruits itself and the coaches just need to hand pick the top players each year. Shouldn't be to difficult for Duke to get back in the swing of things.

Duke wasn't as good as many felt they were. Still good, just not national champs good.

interested--Duke for the last 10 years has been a live or die by the 3 team. After Elton Brand, give me 2 dominant post-players the Blue Devils have had.

As for Duke recruits transferring and not being starters where they go...Chris Burgess was crap. I can't think of any other players that had any degree of hype, and then decided to go elsewhere.

Oh, and for the record, I am not a fan of any of the ACC schools within the state--I don't really have a college team. I just don't l;ike it when people let their shade of blue blur the truth.

The Heels' disastrous season wasn't because of a program going south. It was because of one horrible coach that wasn't ready for the primetime. He and his coaching team were good recruiters but that's where it stopped. His impossible practices where they had to stock extra trash cans because the kids were throwing up multiple times leading to an intense dislike for the coach was what killed them.
Dook isn't in that same predicament because they've got the same coach. Problem is that all of their real decent assistant coaches have moved on to other programs. The assistants now just look to see if a kid can make a 'scowl', curse at the refs, and slap the floor. If they can, they're dook material....

Um no. The heels bad season was based off the fact Guthridge and crew didn't recruit. When it was turned over to Matt D. he had one season of decent players, and then NOTHING. He had to rebuild through recruiting. Doherty got screwed there. He then went on to build a team that was pretty darned good. I don't know if it was stress related or what, but Matt only made matters worse with his coaching style and the way he belittled players. I think given time he'll be a better coach, but he wasn't ready to take the UNC reigns yet. As far as giving him the blame, that's a horrible mistake, and made by people who have no clue about UNC basketball.

Boozer and Williams weren't too shabby.

Casey Sanders never did transfer and filled in admirably when Boozer broke his foot in 2001.

Last year was a shitty year, it wasnt fun to watch Duke play....This year, not so much...they were more athletic more free wheeling....yes they lacked the inside game.

They started Sr. Jr. So. So. Fr. had a So. So. and Fr. as key reserves coming off the bench.

Scheyer IMO is a better all around player than Redick was and next year will show that....

Duke was young, and to say they have fallen into the Notre Dame territory is just fucking laughable.

    partially wrong.

Doh was dealing with a cupboard that was fairly bare thanks to slack recruiting from Dean and Gut. Matt's recruits ended up winning a National Championship. His coaching methods may have been suspect, but so was the talent he was dealing with when he arrived.

    that was a bitch slap.

The difference in Roy and Matt was that Roy had been around enough to know that UNC would not be worth a shit and he had a Kansas team that was pretty good......So he waited.......ole Roy looks after ole Roy.
