Thanks for further illustrating my point.

You are obviously free to reject what others believe. I do not care to argue with you about the validity of the bible since that is a matter of faith for me and not something I base on "hard evidence". I am curious as to your take on the laws concerning firing someone for being gay. I and I think a lot of others assume that this is not permissible. As a lawyer do you think someone fired for being gay has a case in NC?

Is it the term "lost" you find objectionable?

... which is perfectly fine for you, but not for me. Sorry, but my lifetime has made me skeptical of man, right down to Jesus himself, if he even existed (I'm very inclined to believe that he did, but not completely convinced). It all comes down to your personal decision about your role in "faith" - are you an unquestioning soldier, or do you have an obligation as a free thinking being (even a creation of God) to question before saying yes? I choose the latter path because my life experience has taught me that is the way of the world and the role of mankind.

Me? Legally: Very weak precedent, some would (very successfully) argue none, drawing lines in the sand to contain the definitions of sexism and gender as a protected class. Personally: I think that's a chicken#### reason to fire someone, so I'd take the case on principle. What does gender preference have to do with anything in a supposed meritocracy? You're either good at your job or you are not. Especially for those people who don't make it a constant (confrontational) issue at work, which, in my experience, is the norm.

I think it's the pedestal you're standing on. The one you brought with you.

I have tried to explain that there should not be a pedistal. If I have one then that is my failing not a failing of my belief system.

Objectionable isn't really the word. And the term "lost" holds no specific issues either.

The phrasing simply implies a prevailing attitude, and it is an ingrained part of Christian culture, that there Christians are superior to non-Christians.
I'm not saying that Christians shouldn't feel superior and God knows they are. It's just that when conversing with those that believe differently, the implied arrogance/condescension is oft times very evident and is a quick deterrent to any meaningful discourse.

Most companies could care less what you do on your own time if you are a good employee. You need good employees to make money and that is what most companies are about. So this should not be a frequent issue. Based on my history in the corporate world a lot of people do not know you can fire someone for a reason like that. I wonder what might happen if it were more well known. I don't think it would result in huge firings but it might happen more than it does now.

That is not my intention but if I come across that way I apologize. Jesus sat down with the sinners when the religious leaders of his day scoffed at him for it. I do not wish to be seen as part of that.

I think the problem is that the political world and the religious worlds have become intertwined to the extent that efforts to spread the gospel have been hampered by efforts to affect the political process.

Last comment on legal stuff - cause this thread is about religion: I think that if BofA fired all the gay people that work there tomorrow they'd a) lose a surpisingly large part of their workforce and b) be sued constantly for the next ten tears. No company that wanted to do that would take such a firm stand on the issue. They'd find (legitimate) reasons to do so, even if their counsel told them they didnt legally need them.
