    ... rages on after 2 lesbians got fired after they went to Massachusetts, got married and their wedding announcement appeared in the local paper. Apparently it is legal in NC to fire someone for being gay.

    This piece was written by the minister of a local liberal arts college to the local paper.

    I'm not asking for a debate on the topic- been there. I just think the piece was well written and have a lot of respect for the minister for opening not only his mind, but his heart.

    What could be going on here? Historically, the ancient Hebrews were a small band of former slaves, surrounded by large, powerful enemies (the Egyptians and Babylonians, specifically). Some scholars thus believe the Holiness Code was developed to ensure the rapid proliferation of the Hebrew population. Eating shellfish in a hot desert climate could kill you. Sex during menstruation produced no offspring. Ditto for same-sex sexual activity. Thus, the priests deemed these practices to be an “abomination.”

    Debating a subject like this on the internet only makes a conservative Christian look mean. So I will offer my objection with this statement:

    I fully disagree with Rev. Steve Runholt's biased explanation of the Biblical passages he quoted. No surprise there, huh? But this one might:

    Homosexuality is no worse than my lust, my lies, my greed, my temper tantrums, my envy. I too am a sinner in need of God's forgiveness.

    But be sure to catch the word 'sin'...because that's what homosexuality is. That's not up for debate if you accept the Bible as God's authoritative Word. I do...

    But is it REQUIRED to accept the Bible "as God's authoritative word" to be an American?

    That's what I've never been able to figure out. Why is homosexuality some uber-sin? I got enough sinning of my own to worry about.
