I thought this was a 'no name calling' thread. Ban Collin.

The "+1" model that alot of people are liking would essentially have had Alabama & Oklahoma State playing each other for the right to be in the title game. LSU would have taken on #4 in the other semi-final.

Put the top 8 teams on a 1,000 yard football field and let them all play each other at once.

I think I'm just ahead of my time. If you want a "clear cut champion", change the nature and the parameters of the game. Football has always been 1 team vs. 1 team, which leaves way too much room for second guessing. So, allow multiple elite teams to compete in the same arena at the same time, and whichever team scores the most points wins.

It's not inconceivable that Stanford could beat LSU. For that matter, there would still be a hell of a lot of bitching about who got that fourth spot.

    Outstanding.

That's an easy question to answer - Oklahoma State.

Uh ... I'm saying there would be a lot of bitching about who got the fourth spot after LSU, Alabama, and Oklahoma State. Stanford didn't beat any quality opponents besides USC in triple overtime, while Oregon blew Stanford right the fuck out. Don't you think it's possible that Oregon could beat LSU and then the Alabama-Oklahoma State winner? But they would get left out, so if you kept expanding the "playoff" to include everyone who might deserve a chance then you water it down so much that it's become relatively pointless.

    Anything is possible.

My thing is this, you have 11 conference champions, 5 of them from non-AQ conferences. As of now, they haven't a prayer of ever competing for a national championship. The champions of those conferences deserve a shot even though they would get the doors blown off of them. So it's either they get bumped down to FCS or they need to be allowed to compete for the national title through a tournament.

As for the others, they were the highest ranked teams in the BCS poll. Quality teams that can pull off an upset if the best teams have an off day.
